They have miniscule talent with Ballard and Moncrief gone. That was pretty obvious.

I am always impressed with Nikki! Her team's performance and coaching are different & completely unrelated stories.

Did not see the game...just looking at the box score, though...29.6% FG, 1-6 3FG, 28 TOs. Yikes.

They looked better against Rutgers, hard to evaluate a team based on playing UCONN.

Coaches repeatedly say that UConn is the stick by which they measure their programs. I remember after the first ND game in South Bend last season, Muffet cited a list of deficiencies exposed by the Husky win. And, of course, there's the inevitable Meghan Culmo refrain about every team benefitting from its game with UConn. It is possible that some teams do grow from the experience, but that depends on the talent and coaching they get. Just having your brains beaten out doesn't necessarily lead to more than an aspirin.

I've never understood that whole philosophy about how getting your ass handed to you makes you a better team? Last night's game was no benefit to LSU, they shot 30% from the floor and had 30 t/o's. That's why they lost. They're down their two best players against the #1 team in the country, what lessons do you take from that? This is a game where you throw away the film and say hey, we won't play a team as good as them the rest of the year, so let's move forward...

So I'm pretty sure LSU didn't anticipate players being injured when the game was scheduled. I too thought they played well. Looked like they were coached well. Kudos to the coach for playing us. My guess is she might have a different opinion

you won at everything you did, or did you get you ass handed to you once in a while... you got up and fought again til you did better or even started winning, I hope!
have you ever coached little league or a college team, some lose some win.
Geno's team won by 40 and will still be looking at tape, why... whats the point when everything looked spectacular!

Geno's team didn't play a perfect game and there are things they can improve upon, such as the offensive rhythm without Stewart, for LSU they played so poorly that it's a game you don't harp on, you continue to stress your offensive and defensive principles and strive to get better. Why does every comment on this Board have to be reduced to the personal level? It's a message Board for fans to share opinions, yet comments that people don't agree with are always reduced to responses with possessive pronouns. What I have done or not done in my life isn't relevant to the opinion that I expressed on this comment thread. If you disagree with the opinion I express, that's fine and that 's what makes a discussion possible.

I feel like UConn played well. That outcome reflects great D by UConn and incredibly anemic offense by LSU.

A blow out loss means different things to different teams -
A team like Colgate had a great party atmosphere, no chance to win, but a chance to entertain a sold out house for the first time, a chance for their players to compete against the best team in the country and have great moments of success, and a new understanding of what basketball can be. The coach can take the moments that worked and selected moment where errors were made (not just players being overpowered by better players) and prepare the team for games that are winnable.
A team like OSU - they should have competed better, they have enough talent that breaking down the film and the numerous mistakes made and using them as teaching tools has a real benefit to the coaches and players - whether it has any effect, who knows.
A team like LSU - injury ravaged and playing a walk on some serious minutes, never had a chance - but they play in a pretty decent conference , and will be facing a number of very talented teams so the coach can take the film and break down correctable errors, so they can be more competitive when the get into their conference schedule. The coach doesn't care what the shooting percentage on open shots was - what got the open shots worked and can be used to reinforce those aspects of the offense, what led to most of the turnovers is correctable. Managing the pace and looking at how Uconn was able to dictate that, and how LSU failed to counter it is correctable. Looking at why Uconn was getting open, and how the defense was failing to cover on screens or losing players or failing to rotate - all correctable. Boxing out/ offensive rebounding - all things a coach can focus on.
There is a saying that a good video editor can make a great team in a blow out look terrible, and make a bad team getting blown out look brilliant - it is all based on focusing attention on errors and good plays, and a coach identifying the things that can be worked on, that can reinforce good behavior and correct bad behavior.

On Edit - and you can bet the Uconn editor and coaches have plenty of film to make the LSU game a teaching moment for everyone who played and those that didn't as well. The Uconn coaching staff has proved over and over that blow out wins are almost as good as losses for teaching moments - ask Courtney whether her polite discussion with Geno on the sideline was a teaching moment?!
