Definitely looking forward to this one. Central Michigan returns 3 key starters from last year's Sweet 16 team:
  • the outstanding point guard Presley Hudson (23 ppg, 6 apg, 93% FTs)
  • double-double machine Reyna Frost (16 ppg, 11 rpg)
  • the lightning-quick Micaela Kelly (14 ppg).
Louisville, of course, has Asia Durr. I expect Louisville to prevail in this one, but should be a good game.

Thought you might like this one.

11-10 LOU with 6:21 left in first

It's an entertaining game. Kelly is face-guarding Durr and severely limiting her touches, forcing Louisville to play 4 on 4. Durr didn't score until the last possession of the quarter. But Louisville has lots of other weapons and is up 21-17 after 1Q. Fuehring is getting a lot of good looks inside.

32-28 LOU at the half

Durr has 5 pts.
And Hudson for CMU has only 3 points. Both teams are focused on stopping each other's best player. Louisville has very good perimeter defenders and they're making life tough on Hudson.

Jeff is talking to the refs non-stop as he always does and it seems to be working. Sue G is no match for Jeff when it comes to the refs.

He works the refs like few can do. But Louisville has some foul trouble of their own: both Jones and Dunham already have 3 fouls.

After scoring only 5 in the 1st half, Durr scored 7 in the first 4 minutes of 3Q to give Louisville a small cushion. Reyna Frost already on the verge of a dub-dub, with 13 points and 9 rebounds.

Louisville leads by 3. Durr broke a tie at the end of 3Q when she got fouled on a 3-pointer and sank all 3 free throws. Durr came alive that quarter and now has 18. Frost for CMU has 20 and 10..

Durr breaking out hasn’t led to a big lead for Louisville.
56-55 LOU with 8:22 left

Should be a good finish. CMU just won't go away, down 1 with 4:22 to play. Frost has 20 and 13 now.

CMU couldn’t get that one last stop when it mattered.
It seemed like countless times that CMU was within one possession but just couldn't get a stop or, when they did, the go-ahead bucket. Durr totally took over in the 2nd half.

Perhaps I am missing something but why could CMU not try to deny Durr {double team if needed) so she would not be the one fouled and taking the final FT's??

They did try to deny her. They didn't double-team her. Attempt unsuccessful. Coulda woulda shoulda.

72-68 Louisville final. Durr had 31. Is it my imagination or is she not getting all that much attention in the national media this year?

Think you're right. She went over 2,000 points last night and see no mention of it save for Louisville's game write-up (and probably local papers). (Interestingly, she and her back-and-forth buddy from ND, Ms. Ogunbowale, both went over 2,000 within days of each other.)

Durr helps No. 3 Louisville beat Central Michigan, 72-68 - University of Louisville Athletics

The Cardinals had played 6 straight home games before venturing to Michigan, so this was an interesting game to get the skin thicker. After all, the Chippewas are battle tested and well-coached. However, given that Sam Fuerhring was the only other Cardinal in double figures, paying attention to Durr a bit more would seem like a screamer.
