Looks like Texas was holding pocket 9's and the flop just came Ace, King, Queen.

I guess they were so used to everyone in Texas and the Big 12 bowing to their every demand--they've never had anyone tell them no and stand up to them. They burned their bridge to the Pac 10 last year. They thought they had the world at their hands, but now they are stuck. It will be interesting to see if they go back to the Big 12 with their tail between their legs and give up a lot of their power and money. Or do they remain stupidly arrogant and either go independent or go to a conference they really don't want to be in (ACC). Or do they have to give up the LHN completely and go to the Big Ten? Either way, I think they find themselves in a situation they did not expect to be in and are now scrambling.

And Oklahoma put themselves in a tough position. They thought they had the Pac 12 locked up...but obviously not. They have put their demands out in the public today with their demands (Beebe out, Texas giving up a lot). What are they going to do if Texas doesn't give up the power? Maybe Okalahoma and Oklahoma scurry off to the SEC...that is their only other option.

Things are getting very interesting!!!!

I still believe that the culprit was that for the second time in two years, after lengthydiscussions and negotiations (supposedly they were burning the midnight oil Saturday into Sunday to reach an agreement on the LHN), both OU and UT told the P-12 (P-10 in 2010) that they would have one last discussion with the B-12 before decided on moving.

If you react to every ESPN "report" as if it has a shelf life longer than breasd, you are going to go insane. The B12 is dead. So is the BE. Ok, maybe they are on life support, but they've called in the priest to issue last rights. Do you really think OU and UT want to be part of the BE? Do you really think conferences are done expanding. Remember last month when the SEC "we didn't invite TA&M"? Herbst gets it - whetehrit happens this year, next or when the BCS contract up for renewal, the BE will not have a seat at the table - even if they add Navy, Air Force and the other programs to whom no other major conference would give a sniff. Don't try and reshuffle the deck chairs on the titanic, secure yourself a place in a lifeboat.

Two points .

1. The Pac Ten Presidents told their commissioner we understand why you want a bigger conference but what's in it for us? If other conference Presidents start doing this, the whole landscape may change.

2. The Texas--Oklahoma negotiations are going to be very interesting, because neither side really has any leverage at all.

I think part of the whole deal is Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. If it were just Oklahoma or just Texas I'd think they would have options... but because they're perceived as tethered to the other two... and of course the whole LHN is a huge albatross for Texas now.

Pac12 can get squeezed out, that's the danger Scott is seeing. If Texas and/or Okie end up in the SEC, Big10 or ACC, and if somehow there's an agreement about 16/64 conferences, the Pac12 might find itself inviting Kansas and Kansas St. into the league. That's what Scott is looking at.

I disagree that neither side has any leverage---I believe Oklahoma is in a strong enough bargaining position to force change, and expect Texas to either: (1) make serious concessions to the Big XII or some other conference; or (2) go independent. Obviously, the former is more likely.

Here's the thing: Texas has now been refused entrance into the PAC-10 as a result of its failure to agree to equal revenue sharing. Similar issues caused Texas A&M to leap to the SEC, and Missouri to shop itself around to anyone who will listen. You now have a very weakend Big XII that only survives if Oklahoma stays in the fold. And it would shock me to no end if Oklahoma has no option but to stick it out. Certainly Oklahoma is more attractive to the Big 10, SEC or ACC than anyone not named Texas or Notre Dame. Oklahoma's threat of fleeing should, therefore, remain. The only question is does Texas finally make concessions to the Big XII or take its ball and go elsewhere?

That makes sense... if the PAC12 wont take OK State and Texas Tech... then no one will... which means Oklahoma and Texas are free to look out for their own interest 100%... which makes the SEC and the Big 10 MUCH more likely for OK and TX.
