After all those NCAA games in Greensboro and Raleigh and Charlotte, it feels real good to have to see UNC finally play a road game in the NCAA's.

Yeah....that must be their "punishment" from the NCAA for allowing athletes on their football team to be bought, and for that little issue of creating an entire academic department that was a fraud and gave credit to athletes for faux classes.

How many Mickey D's on his team or top 25 guys?

Plenty

They have at least 5, that I can think of.
Paige, McAdoo, Hairston, Bullock, Strickland... And think about it... Barnes, K.Marshall, J.Henson, T.Wear & D.Wear would still be on their team if they didn't declare for the draft or transfer.

Hilarious that UNC fans were complaining about playing in KC.

Agreed. Roy was very outspoken about it as well. One of the most overrated coaches in basketball. When was the last time he beat someone in the tournament who was better than him?

I'll never understand the Roy Williams hate. Basically, when he wins, he's overrated b/c he has so much talent. When he loses, he's overrated b/c he has so much talent. Was JC a bad coach when we underachieved in 94, 96, 06, 12? Williams has 2 championships, 7 final fours, and over 700 wins; tough for me to say that he's not a very good coach.

Nobody criticizes him when he wins. He just doesn't win enough, considering the talent he has. That's why he gets the "hate." I'm not saying he's not a good coach. He's just not near JC's level, IMO.

Those Calhoun teams were talented but they weren't teams with 4, 5, 6, 7 McD's All-Americans, were they? Shudder to think what Calhoun could have accomplished with the players Williams had.

Roy started at Kansas. It's hard to fail at Kansas. Then he went to UNC. Even worse. He consistently underachieves despite pulling in a million McDonald's AAs. He often has more McD's AA on his team than UConn has gotten in its history.

I agree to a point - I think he gets labeled overrated because his only coaching gigs have been at Kansas and UNC, regardless of whether that criticism is fair or not.

It almost reminds me of the criticism Phil Jackson gets for "only" winning championships with teams led by MJ, Shaq or Kobe. But there's a reason the Bulls and Lakers hired him in the first place - the guy can flat out coach

Same thing with Roy. No, he's not on the Coach K/Calhoun/Izzo level, but he still has two championships, seven Final Fours and wins 80% of the games he's involved in. You can break it down however you like, but that's pretty d*** good.

(It's worth noting, though, that Roy is a complete d***head, yet never gets criticized for it. I think it's the accent.)

The McD AA thing is very, very overrated. Other than McAdoo, none of those guys are better than Omar and Omar was a fringe McD AA at best. But in part b/c they were UNC commits, they get the McD label. This used to always happen to Duke too back in the day. Duke legends such as Taymon Domzalski, Erik Meek, Casey Sanders, Eric Boateng amongst many other stiffs were also McD AA's and they all sucked. Because they were Duke recruits their ratings soared by the "experts." I will say that as a whole Williams has underachieved a bit considering the talent he has had at his disposal, but with 7 final fours, 700+ wins, and 2 titles saying he is a bad coach is idiotic imo.

Oh and in no way am I implying that Roy is even close to JC. We have had some great teams (without McD AAs) that have choked or underachieved. JC never gets much blame (and rightly so). But when Roy has a down year with a talented squad, he gets called a bad coach and when he has won big it is what was expected and he gets little credit.
