I thought you might want to read an article on Saniya Chong that is on the front page of our local newspaper’s sports section this morning 2/19.

Click on this LINK to go to it.

Enjoy.

She sounds really good. Hopefully this will play out well for UCONN.

She has gotten much more attention in the past few months, I think she will see a major rise in the rankings.

As a sophomore, she had a 6-game stretch in the playoffs when she averaged 42 ppg. Yikes!

I really like this young lady and I hope she chooses UCONN. You can never have to many offensive weapons on the floor at one time.

As far as we know, Geno has not offered Saniya a scholarship, so she can’t pick UConn as her school of choice, at least not her college offering a women’s basketball scholarship.
Saniya is a recruit of interest in the class of 2013 (Fall). Shea, Marisa and CD have seen her play. If CD brought back a positive report, as I assume Shea and Marisa did, than I would think that Geno would go and take a look for himself. Then, if he felt confident in her skill set and how she would blend with the needs of the team, he would invite Saniya and her family up to Storrs for a second visit (so they get to know each other better, since UConn has only just gotten involved in her recruitment) after which time he would make a decision on whether or not to offer Saniya a scholarship.
I believe Saniya is supposed to attend a practice sometime this week (or soon), so that’s another opportunity for the two sides to get to know one another.

There are only two recruits in the class of 2013 (Fall) that we publicly know UConn has offered scholarships to: Diamond DeShields and Taya Reimer. The four other players are recruits of interest….at least that’s my understanding at the moment.

My understanding is consistent with Time's. Saniya is scheduled to visit in the next 10 days or so. She does not have an offer yet to our knowledge, but I think she may well be our first 2013 commit.

As you said that is limited to our knowledge.

The full article didn't appear [to me] but anyway:

I believe Ossining plays tonight in the state tournament. They have a potential match-up with Breanna and North Cicero on March 16 at Hudson Valley CC in Troy.

Geno has stated in the past that recruits only receive scholarship offers after ALL of the following:

A:
1. Being at least a HS Junior (ever since the Jacki G. debacle)

B:
1. At least one staff seeing recruit play in a game
2. At least one staff speaking with recruit and family

C:
1. Recruit attending a UConn game
2. Recruit visiting UConn campus
3. Recruit observing a UConn practice

I'd say Saniya is a C3 away from receiving that scholarship offer (unless she/UConn has a "Ariel Massengale" visit)! :)

Tiffany received an offer [and accepted it] with C2 missing.

You are correct...I don't know if they always follow that protocol, it's just what Geno has stated in the past.

However here's a quote from when she committed...
"I saw (the campus) on the Internet," Hayes said. "I know it's better to go and see it but I saw it on the Internet. It really doesn't make a difference."

Also, I feel as though my memory is telling me Diamond received an offer as a SOPH...so who the heck knows...only they know when they REALLY want a player...I trust that they are the experts...and hopefully, we'll be getting some verbals...any day now!!!!

Did you click on page "2" at the bottom of page "1" of the article? I just tried clicking on both page "2" and page "3" and it brought up both pages to the screen perfectly.

I'm hoping to get to Saniya's game against Horace Greeley this afternoon. I enjoy watching her play......shes a very explosive, complete player. Great defense, dynamic offense and lightning quick transition play. Go Saniya!
