While it is possible the well might be poisoned, it is a cutthroat “win now” situation we live in when it comes to college sports. If a coach can upgrade his/her roster, many coaches won’t hesitate to non-renew a scholarship. Their job may be dependent on getting the roster upgraded. Usually, it is not publicized because the player losing the scholarship will be trying to find a spot to transfer to and it doesn’t help their cause if all of the other coaches know they were deemed to be not good enough for a roster spot. Also players realize the college sports universe has turned into a business and they are not surprised, in many cases, when there is a non-renewal of their scholarship.
