They'll keep the blog up for a day or two (hopefully) so, if you want to see it after the fact, you might need to scroll down to reach it. They'll probably blog the finals too.....tomorrow night Sat 3/17 8:45 pm.

Why can't NY get TV coverage for its playoff games, but Georgia and Illinois can? It's not like NY produces a lot of top national talent or anything.

Score at the half is 46 - 24 Cicero Leads 46 - 24. Apparently Breanna is having a great game and Saniya not so great.

Many negative comments on Chong saying UCONN will lose interest in her. That's BS for sure.
Stewart having a mega performance even for her.

Just got the official box - Stewart 9 for 15 on FGs (2 for 3 from deep), 5 for 5 from the line for 25 points.

Message to Saniya: Would you rather have Breanna on your side or the other side?

Just returned from the game. Breanna was truly outstanding; tough, too, as she got roughed up quite a bit, but never let it bother her. Saniya is long, graceful and lightening quick. She's mighty tough, too. However, she had a very, very poor shooting night. Had some good looks, they just didn't go in. Also, missed many on the run shots, which probably usually go in and reflect the run and gun style of her team. However, at least tonight, that style was not effective against a formidable CNS defense. She and her young team will live to play another day and it won't surprise me to see them be State Champions next year.
All in all, it was very special to see two extraordinary athletes on the court.

"Stewart powered for an and-one three-point play off a jaw-dropping, one-on-Ossining, you-can’t-stop-me move that started 35 feet from the basket."

Nice piece of writing. Probably refers to the play at :30 of this brief highlight video.

Saniya on difficulty of handling Breanna's height, here.

Keep your chin up, Saniya. Fine season. Ossining the victim of a more experienced team as well as the phenomenal Ms. Stewart. Next year should be Ossining's all the way.

C-NS played three seniors and three juniors. Ossining, all juniors and freshmen, except for the seventh graderAndra Espinoza-Hunter, who hit six three-pointers in a game earlier this month.

Incidentally, here's a pic from Thursday morning. An unsuspecting Breanna was speaking on the fascinating subject of granola bars during her third period speech class in the school library when in walk Gatorade spokeswoman Tamika Catchings and crew to deliver the Gatorade National Player of the Year trophy.

I was fortunate to be courtside for this one: A little of this and that [or maybe a lot of this and that]:

I had Breanna for 42 and about 20 boards. She was 15-24 from the floor [2 for 4 from trey-land]....10-12 from the line. She was superb. She played all but the last 2 minutes when the coach pulled her. At that point Elvis and I left the building.
Her face-the basket skills are noticeably better than last March. Her mid-range and trey shooting is good. She brought the ball up court for most of the game....really good handle for her size. Ossining's press bothered Cicero in the 4th quarter when she relinquished those duties.

Her teammates did a nice job of moving the ball and hitting shots. You can see how this team is a top ten national squad. The game was at a fast pace thruout but Cicero didn't seem flustered by that. Ossining has good quickness and speed with a couple of 6' types. They got smoked early and never recovered. They will be back here next March...imo. Double and triple teams were often used against Breanna.

Breanna has a very pleasing energetic style to her game....no histrionics...pretty cool cookie....just has some bounce to her git-a-long as she runs. I've seen a fair amount of high school ball and this ranks with in the top 3 I have seen in person.

BTW: remember her nickname [six-ten] and the source of that? Pish-tosh....USABasketball measured her and we need a new nickname....seven-one.

Saniya: I had her with 19....6 for 23 from the floor [one trey]...6 for 8 from the line. She is slender...nice size for a guard...maybe 5'9". She is quick and fast and uses her off-hand well
. Her perimeter shot is a quick release one hand push/set shot....something like Mel Thomas would use. She shot the ball poorly last night. The whole Ossining team basically has a Loyola Marymount style....i.e. no shot is a bad shot. Saniya clearly has a lot of talent...I hope our looks at her prove to be of benefit to both us and Saniya.

Good atmosphere....nice contingents from Cicero and Ossining. I don't think the first semi-final winner [Rochester area school] will do much better....hope Cicero has no let-down. Next Saturday....if they win tonight....they play Nazareth....that should be a great game.
