Interesting. A former linebacker as the new AD who's wife was an ALL American gymnast. Nice:)

And.... it was all done BEFORE Warde left. Impressive UConn, your moving in the right direction.

The local media just showed themselves to be shallow and uninspiring in their questioning. Benedict had to be saying "Holy crap, three similar questions all asking about the P-5 that I could answer neatly. And no one asked me whether we could create a UConn version of Toomer's Corner. These guys are babies compared to Paul Finebaum and the SEC throat slitting press corps".

The press asked the right questions. When Warde was announced as AD, there were many questions surrounding UConn athletics such as the breakup of the Big East, funding the basketball practice facility, men's basketball APR/postseason ban, Calhoun aging, an uninspiring football coach, men's hockey status,... Warde left the house in good order with the exception of conference affiliation. Thus, I'm not surprised the press had few questions today. Although conference affiliation may not be Benedict's job, it is the only question that I have about UConn athletics today.

I'm looking at Twitter and am amazed at all the UConn beat reporters throwing quotes out from Benedict's presser. There is now way all these guys were there (yet everyone of them tweeted that they were there before presser started or were on their way up there for the presser) when only 3 questions were asked.

Still a lot of questions that could have been asked. He spoke about improving gameday experience, how about asking about things he's done in the past, or ideas he has for here? Improving attendance?

People saw this hire as showing that we are serious about football. You'd think they'd ask something about football.

If you needed this presser to realize what lightweights we have in the media, well, all I can say is a belated welcome to the party. Had we hired a new women 's assistant coach, I am sure the press would have had 50 questions. Instead, there is a complete lack of understanding (perhaps indifference) amongst the local media to the crisis that surrounds UCONN athletics.

Do we know who in the press was actually there, besides the three who asked questions? Unfortunately, the fixed camera didn't help any... as we couldn't see anyone beyond the speaker. With that knowledge in mind, all the press guys could fly under the radar ... maybe not even attend...yet act like they did. Crazy to only have three questions...and a bit embarrassing too.

Their only defense is that Benedict gave an organized and concise overview about how he plans to run things and deferred specific questions about CR (which most wanted to ask about I'm sure) until he has a chance to discuss things in more detail with SH.

He sounds like a great hire though!

Did they media get to interview Benedict / ask questions after the stream ended, one-on-one? Might be an explanation why only a few questions at the end of the presentation.

No wonder why no one reads the newspapers anymore. What a joke.

Job security in a dying industry. Not one of the reporters present for the press conference have an editor applying any pressure to produce a quality product.

Maybe Benedict can improve the press conference experience as he works to improve the game day and conference re-alignment experiences. ;)

Really... other than a P-5 inclusion opinion there isn't much to ask a guy that's been on the job less than 24 hrs.

Could have asked him what he discovered at Auburn were the most important changes he instituted that made for a better game day experience? What did he think of UConn's facilities and how did they measure up to other places he's been? What were his prior impressions of UConn and how did his last few days of being immersed in this hiring process alter it?
There could have been lots of questions that at least served to indicate how we as a constituency passionately cared about our future.
