Lindy's 2020-2021 College Basketball Magazine Forecasts | The Boneyard

Lindy's 2020-2021 College Basketball Magazine Forecasts

It would be nice to chalk up a win over a top 5 team early if only to argue for UConn being a 1 seed in March. :)

We play 3 of those 4 teams and I think it's entirely possible we could win at least 2, if not all 3 of them. A lot depends on how fast the team comes together will all the new pieces. I think we'll get one out of the way real quickly - MS ST, in our second game.

Are you guys going to have fans at your games this season? SC is still undecided, but I assume it will probably be 20% of capacity, like it has been for football. 20%, even masked, might be too risky, IMO. What are you guys doing?

Their has been no sporting events in the North East where fans were allowed. With cases going up recently, I do not see how we can have any fans.

Connecticut is operating with an abundance of caution. Which is why positive tests are still (largely) running less than 2% of all tests. As compared to some states where it is over 20%.

Cockhrnleghrn, I'm not sure any decision has been made yet. I think it depends on what phase we are in and where the game is being played. From what I've read the majority, if not all, of the home games will be played at Gampel, on campus, or the Mohegan Sun casino. I'd be willing to wager that nothing will be over twenty per cent if that.

UConn is ranked number 3, after South Carolina and Stanford. Mississippi State and Baylor round out the first five. Time will tell.
I looked at that magazine, Donald. I was ready to buy it until I saw that they had only devoted two pages to Women's basketball. I used to love the old Smith & Street. I think they had better coverage on both the women's game and high school recruiting.

Found this buried in a twitter thread. Not sure where it originated? Mississippi State fan?

All American teams were more interesting to me than the rankings.

I noticed that some years ago and that is why I do not buy them anymore. That is also a reason I listed only the top five. I did not feel like memorizing the whole top ten. I used to anxiously wait for Street and Smith's to hit the stands. The high school coverage seemed to be more thorough and almost always had photos of the players, although it usually had little to say about my St. Louis University Billikens. The Internet did no favors for that magazine.

I have to say that they are going to regret leaving North Carolina off their top 25! I think they are going to be a perennial top 25 team for the foreseeable future. They have a very good coach who is finally in a position to recruit top talent to complement her coaching skills!

I'm certainly planning on it :)

Oh dear. This is going to be a mess! I need to start figuring out my favorite mid-majors. Gone are Ciara Duffy and Bela Alarie! Southwest Nowhere State is nowhere to be seen on the horizon! What to do, what to do! I guess I'll just have to wait for the league previews to start coming out to glean some form of wisdom about this....abnormal season.

I protest these rankings entirely on the fact that they put South Dakota State's logo next to South Dakota. That ain't a blurb about the Jackrabbits! #yotesforever #yotesforthesummit.

Honestly though, it's going to be much harder to judge teams like Princeton, Green Bay, South Dakota, Florida Gulf Coast, Missouri State, Drake, and other traditional non-P5+BEAST powers if they don't get their usual jaunts out of conference.

Maybe I'll just rank teams based on who I think will annoy Plebe most.

I will be watching and cheering via my big screen. I will also have on my UConn gear, from hoodies, t-shirts, sweatpants, masks, tennis shoes and socks. I had plan to attend at least 2 games in my area, but with the pandemic I will pass.

Dawn already said 17% of the full seating capacity is allowed as long as its social distanced..

Appears based on the increased rate of hospitalizations, the real question may be are games going to happen, period.

Not true. The Hartford Athletic, the soccer team that plays in the USL Championship (below MLS) had fans this summer.

Also High Schools in MA are allowing up to 100 spectators for outdoor games. (soccer, field hockey)

CT just crossed the 3% threshold.

Because Uconn has an older fan base anyway, they have decided to use cardboard fans and canned cheering. Just kidding of course, but it sure will be nice when people can be around people again sans the masks. I have a feeling that we will really appreciate the day when stadiums and basketball courts can have as many fans as can fit.

The team that is going to shock a lot of people is, Arizona Wildcats. They are ranked properly but as the season (hopefully there is a season) moves along and that powerful Pac-12 conference starts to round into form, the Wildcats are going to be right in that mix of UCLA, Stanford, Oregon, and Oregon State.

I think they left out a few players...........ONO should make one of the three AA teams this season, CW should have a big rebound year and if PB starts there's a decent chance she will make third team too..........Westbrook is more of a question mark to me due to her injuries............

That's too much, IMO, even if the city's mask ordinance is vigorously enforced. It's a tough decision to miss the season, but it seems too risky to have fans in the stands.

I have to say half the pleasure for me is watching your bulging beyond capacity crowds cheering for Dawn's charges. Of course the other half is UConn shutting them up with a barrage of 3's and layups.

And puts the workers in the arena at risk. (Although I expect they want their jobs.)

The odd thing is that for all but a large handful of teams 17% capacity would be a record attendance.
