Coyotes traded Letunov and a 2017 6th rounder to San Jose for a 2016 4th rounder and a 2017 3rd rounder.
It's the second time Letunov's rights have been traded before even signing a contract.
Arizona has a ton of high-impact forward prospects (Strome, Dvorak, Perlini, Fischer, Merkley to name a few) so Letunov is a much better fit for San Jose who isn't as rich in forward prospects. Add in the fact that both Thornton and Marleau's contracts expire after the 2016-2017 season, San Jose is a much better landed spot for Letunov. Wish him best of luck with San Jose!
