Romero was obviously expected and at this point she is a bit marginal for this league. Banham (the Sun have invested a lot in her), Bentley, Thomas, Williams and potentially a couple draft choices are the competition. Numerically, she could make the roster. I would guess the Sun could keep 5 guards and 7 posts. The Sun really had only 4 pure guards last season with Stricklen as a swing player. Romero's international experience should help.
Equally interesting is the return of Kelsey Griffin a HUGE fan favorite in Connecticut due to her blue collar, hustling approach to the game. She's been a real star in the WNBL (past MVP), but she's going to have to overcome a lot to stick around in the WNBA. In her favor - it looks like Kayla Pedersen will opt out this year and Danielle Adams (although she was a great teammate and chemistry booster) was not able to contribute much on the court. Coach Miller puts a lot of emphasis on chemistry. I think Kelsey would be a plus in that area. The acquisition of Cayla George won't help her chances. It is interesting and maybe troubling that she went out of the WNBL with a hip injury. IIRC, that was the problem when she left the Sun.
Laney... a really good athlete, very aggressive, but her stats are very unimpressive and her on court demeanor may not be a fit for the Sun. She's young and could have developed... we'll see.
