Let the games begin (again): Dec. 28-29

Didnt get to see the game, but I was shocked to see the margin of the HPU vs Campbell. Campbell was victorious 73-36. Looks to be a long season for WCBB teams with Panthers mascots... HPU, Pitt, Georgia State, FIU, Prairie View etc
It's too bad Dillon High School is no longer competing.

Speaking of Panthers stinking it up ......... Saints up 35-0 in the first half

Va Tech at FSU is on Fox here. Game of runs so far.

Heading to Reed later for TAMU-CC at TAMU. Hoping for nothing newsworthy from that game. There should be other SEC teams wrapping up the OOC schedule today.

At the end of the 3rd quarter, Wake Forest leading Miami 44-38 on the road.

WF with a 20-6 third quarter to take the lead. Jen Hoover trying to save her job!

WF showed signs of a pulse with wins over Florida and Dayton just before Christmas, but make no mistake this would be a HUGE upset.

MTSU led TCU by 15 at the half, but TCU used a huge run in 3Q to draw within 4.
The Blue Raiders are just trying to hang on, having some foul trouble here and they've gone cold shooting.

Eight SEC teams to be precise. All of them playing at home against cupcakes. All one-sided games except Florida-Davidson, since Florida is a quasi-cupcake itself.

Clemson @ND on YES network. 4PM start.

Providence at Villanova FS1 4PM start

Middle Tennessee survives a second-half rally by TCU, as well as major foul trouble, to win 82-70.

At the start of the season, this wouldn't have been a surprising result, given the high expectations for MTSU and all the graduation losses for TCU. But MTSU had disappointed against every notable opponent so far, and TCU has looked pretty strong.

Aislynn Hayes had 22 points, including 5-11 from 3. Charity Savage had 22 rebounds and iced the game down the stretch from the FT line (9-10 for the game).

I'm ready for SEC play to start.

Buzzer-beater by Bucknell to go to double OT against Stony Brook:

#17 Gonzaga down double digits at the half to Portland.

Portland started 4-0 then without Haylee Andrews went 2-3 and now 1-1 (lost to Portland State) with her back again, for overall 7-4.

The Zags shall escape, meaning that they are still perfect in regulation games this season.

Colorado over Utah (at Utah) by 10, so they remain undefeated. They are very very young (mostly freshmen and sophomores, with a fine looking freshman point guard), really get up and down the floor, and seem to me much improved over last year, despite the inevitable growing pains that go with a roster this inexperienced (turnovers, ill-advised shots, shaky defense, etc.). If any of the better teams in the conference, and especially those toward the middle, sleep on them, it could be trouble.

I was stuck in traffic most of the afternoon, but have caught 4th quarter of Washington @ Washington St. Pretty ugly display of basketball going on in the Palouse. Looks like the Huskies are going to win their first game in Pullman in a few years. 60-54 w/ 32 sec. left and UW possession.

I've watched it off and on. Hristova has had a really off game (5 of 15, no 3s) and no one else has picked up enough slack. Wazzu also put UW on the line a lot this game.

The Russian JC transfer from Broward County for Washington has had probably her best game yet. 12 points and 3 assists.

63-56 UW. So...why is Wazzu still fouling w/ 1.3 seconds left? Is there a 7 point play they have drawn up?

edit-65-56 final, take that Cougs

Yes. It's called launching a player onto the score-table and accidentally adding 8 points to Wazzu's score. The effectiveness of this tactic is unknown and shall be tested.

It's a good wynn for Wynn's squad. Hopefully, they can build on this. I thought that Wazzu had much more promise going into this season.

Figures, I missed all of her scoring. That probably just about matches how many points she's scored all season prior to today.

Ha not quite that bad. She'd scored 26 points over 10 games. Previous high was 6 points vs. Weber State

I was using my powers of hyperbole.

I was just scrolling thru scores and instantly thought of you when I saw Stephen F. Austin played Our Lady of The Lake today. I'm not even making that up, that's really who they played!

edited--and if not for a terrible 3rd quarter might've actually won!

Ha yes I saw that too. Our Lady of the Lake University is an NAIA school located in San Antonio, great Catholic city that it is. I remember getting brochures from them when I was in high school.

Mississippi State easily beat Arkansas Little Rock as expected. Chloe Bibby was cleared today from concussion protocol and did not start. Xaria Wiggins, who drawn recent praise from Coach Schaefer for her defense and energy off the bench, started in her place. The remaining starting four (M Taylor, J Danberry, R Jackson, and J Carter) was the same and seems to have stabilized.

X Wiggins struggled starting. C Bibby played 11 minutes in the second half and did well. Other than the starters the most consistent player appears to be Espinoza-Hunter. She seems to know her strengths and plays within them. She is also positive whether she plays a lot or a little.

I hoped a consistent and smaller rotation would have emerged by now. However that hasn’t happened yet. J Hemingway had not played much in the previous games but was first off the bench tonight. Coach Schaefer said she had been practicing well and did what he needed to help the team win.

Y Morris has been subbing more for J Carter and played a few minutes with her tonight. She seems to be getting more comfortable in the system and doesn’t have P Taylor’s current physical limits.

A Matharu played very well tonight scoring 18 points in the fourth quarter. However more importantly she had 0 turnovers, 2 steals, 5 rebounds, and drew 2 charges.

Ultimately it appears that after the starting five it is somewhat of a crapshoot as to who you will see coming off the bench.

Well, she's averaging 7 points, 1.6 rebs, 0.5 assists, and 0.3 steals on 38% shooting and 31% from three. Now I know Bulldogs fans expected much more from her based on the reaction after her transfer.
