Learning to Win

The overplay defense is killing us too.

He’s going to stick with it , and he should. But it’s going to take a while.

When you pressure hard up top but don’t keep guys from turning corners you give up 3s and under basket hoops where there isn’t a defender within 12 feet of a guy. Happened multiple times today . Both for 3’s and layups.

It didn't end momentum is my point. They kept playing and playing well with the exception of the missed free throw and need the D to be better at the end. As great as Polley was hitting back to back 3s that foul he had at the end was also unnecessary.
Yeah polleys foul, talk about a karate kick

Our team likes to play fast instead of playing quick. Leadig to a lot of turnovers..

Disappointing loss as Arizona was seemingly trying to give us this game.

So true. Our guards try to force impossible things and that leads to Brick 3 pt attempts , bad shots and turnovers. Every play can’t be 100 mph hour. Every play can’t be a dagger.

Turnovers are a major major issue. This is why Coach Hurley plays Smith over Vital in critical moments. We have to lead the NCAA in turnovers at this point.

Momentum killer, fouling a 3 point shot while shot clock is expiring
That happened in the heat of the moment. Tarin was instrumental in that defensive set to cause that last second heave.

Bigger issue with Jalen having half a shot clock with no AZ players near him and he misses threes.

Too much one on one, too many forced shots and forced plays for turnovers. Gilbert was bad most of the game. Can't win when your point guard is that off. Team doesn't stay with team offense when the defense gets tight. They resort to their 3 guards trying to do too much on their own. If you have a solid pro on your team, that may work at times. Jalen has done this many times before. He can take over a game when the defense is mediocre, but against a solid team he can't be superhuman... he comes down to earth. Hurley needs to put more discipline in the offense. The guards try and do too much. Tough balance between letting your guards create and protecting them from stupid plays. Today the balance was off. They take turns making mental mistakes.

Jalen was a turnover machine too today.

12 betweem him and vital.

That's an extra 10 points at the end of the game left on the floor

Two years of not being in position to win these kinds of games shows. We’re at the point where we can compete/win these kinds of games if all our key players bring their “A” game; it they don’t, we’re still a couple players away....

Not a great game for Jalen and AG IMO. They made their plays but also made a lot of ill-advised drives to the hoop. Defense had too many breakdowns that gave Arizona easy hoops. I thought they fought hard but they still have to clean up the mistakes and learn how to win these games.

It's gonna take an influx of new players, next year and the year after. Supreme athletes with length.
