IMO the biggest problem that this team has is lack of leadership. We were spoiled last year with Kemba and maybe so was Jim Calhoun. The whole team looked to Kemba from the start of the season and fed off his energy. This year Napier and Oriakhi are the co-captains and in theory the leadership should be coming from them. However Napier seems to be up and down and Oriakhi for whatever reason is too moody. Lamb is too meek (maybe it's his name). Giffey is too quiet and Olander is too reserved. Drummond could be a quiet leader but seems to lack so much confidence when he's at the free throw line that it would be hard for him to sustain any momentum. Boatright could be the leader at some point but he has played so little that it might be uncomfortable for him now. So maybe it's Roscoe Smith. He seems to have the energy and is a solid player. I love the way he rebounds and wish he had a better outside shot but I think he may be our best bet right now.
The disturbing thing for Uconn right now is they look like they are just going through the paces. They started off great against Georgetown but when Napier and Oriakhi came into the game the momentum disappeared. When a player doesn't hustle and Calhoun gets on him they seem to go into a shell. Somebody on the floor needs to be screaming at the players when they do not hustle and chest bumping them when they make a good play.
Last night one of the Georgetown players went to the floor with a loose ball and Drummond just watched him. I'm not knocking Drummond but someone should have been all over him for that. That is part of leadership.
