My age. Too young. I’m not a Mets fan but I always liked him.

I started following the Mets in 1979 and he was well past his prime then but man, the dude could hit. Always a quality at bat and just one of those guys born to swing a bat.

You could not be a Mets fan in the 1970s and not also be a huge Rusty Staub fan. And his 2nd late career stint as pinch-hitter was equally legendary. He was Big Papi 1.0 just not as many ABs being in the NL. HOF for sure if he'd spent those last years as DH, but he loved NY and NY loved him so glad he was a Met.

For at least 7 of his 9 years in the orange and blue, Rusty was one of the only Mets worth rooting for.

Wasn't aware of all his charitable work. The man was a great one.

Every pack of Topps had a Staub in it.
