Lawmakers announce deal for sports betting, online lottery and Bridgeport casino, breaking stalemate over expanded gambling in Connecticut

>>Legislative leaders announced Wednesday a long-sought deal approving a plan with the Mashantucket Pequots and Mohegans to jointly build a casino in Bridgeport, the third gambling facility in Connecticut.

The measure expands gambling in the state by authorizing the Connecticut Lottery to offer online and app-based lottery ticket sales and to offer iKeno. And tribes would conduct sports betting at the casinos, via mobile apps and internet gambling.

Sports wagering would be taxed at 8 percent and internet gambling would be taxed at 10 percent.<<

But why would we give the tribes exclusive rights to sports betting? Instead of the state keeping 100% they now get 8% in exchange for a tiny casino in Bridgeport? That's not a great deal. We'd make way more money in the long run if we tore up the tribes slot deal, let MGM build their 600 million casino in Bridgeport, and controlled online ourselves.

Great insight Jeff!

Love this gem:

“To be clear, Ritter said, you couldn’t bet on Connecticut games that were going on at the time, certainly not at the XL Center. Imagine some guy putting five grand on a UConn-Villanova game and there’s a missed foul shot with five seconds to go? Dude may go crazy and rush the court. That would be a disaster. The NCAA wants none of that, Ritter said, UConn wants none of that.”

The people entrusted to figure this out are brain dead and the media attempting to inform the populance is so lost they couldn’t find their rear ends in a phone booth.

“Amid all the promises of jobs and revenue, Connecticut needs to be careful. MGM Springfield, which opened in August 2018, had gross gambling revenue in July of $20.4 million. MGM Springfield had told the Massachusetts Gaming Commission it expected $418 million in annual gross gambling revenues in its first year, $34.8 million per month. The Encore Boston Harbor casino in Everett opened June 23 to add to the continued saturation. The squeeze is on.“
