Wonder if UConn still gets a #1 seed if they lose tonight. Would Maryland be moved up to a 1 seed if that happens.

You pose an intriguing question. UConn may have to keep their # 1 seed in such a scenario because Maryland is hosting the first two rounds and making Maryland a #1 would put Notre Dame in a quandary. Keeping Maryland a #2, avoids a plethora of headaches.

If Creme's forecasted 3-14 matchup between Hampton and Delaware comes to fruition, that would be well battling tunnel traffic into Norfolk. EDD and Hampton's band, what could be more entertaining?

It baffles me that North Carolina has a chance to be in this year's tournament.

Maryland is only #8 on an RPI basis. I THINK UConn is safe as the #1 regardless, but a win tonight sure would help seal the deal. I used to think it wouldn't matter much whether UConn was a #1 or #2 because they'd likely be in Kingston anyway, but the way they've struggled a bit recently, they could really use an easier path to regain some positive momentum. A setup like Creme has would be a dream bracket for the girls.

Agreed. The last thing UConn needs to see right now is a team capable of putting up a lot of points on any given night. There are no such threats in Creme's projected Kingston bracket.

I feel like we are always in the same bracket as Duke the last several seasons?? Wish we could get a #2 we haven't played. Tennessee or Kentucky would be nice.

Tennessee has possible rematches with Rutgers, Miami and if the win those two, Baylor.

Not an easy path to the final four.

All the 8 seeds in this bracket look tougher than usual: Florida, West Virginia, Oklahoma and maybe Cal. Not saying they are seeded too low, just that they all seem capable of giving the 1 seeds a tussle in the second round.

Maybe a sign of growing parity?

Those four teams are all maturing and trying to figure out how to win consistently. Florida had more heartbreaking losses this season than I can imagine. WVU and OU had really bad starts to their respective seasons, and that's keeping them low. Cal hasn't beaten a ranked opponent all season, but they do have some very narrow deafeats, including to Stanford in OT. Kind of an enigma.

On another note, if the real brackets look like Creme's, Texas could be a nice bracket buster. Georgetown is erratic as all get out, and Delaware realistically hasn't played a team as good as Texas since it started league play. If Texas plays like they have, they could make the Sweet 16 against two teams like that.

Maryland is #8 RPI with the #15 SOS. Unfortunately for the Turtles they have a bad WTF loss to #213 RPI Virginia Tech at home. UConn is #4 RPI, #6 SOS and its four losses were to the #3 and #11 RPI teams.

IIRC, there was an interview with someone from the NCAA committee and she stressed that the committee would be looking at the ENTIRE body of work, not focusing more on how the teams finished. but i think that's a pretty decent bracket - certainly a good one for UCONN. not so much for Tennessee.

I do think that Uconn has to beat Samson Johnson tonight to get a #1. The way they are playing lately, Duke could give some trouble.
MD has looked better lately, so I would rather face Duke than them.

Since losing the overtime game to Duke in 2006, Duke has only been bracketed with once; Last season. In 2007, duke was the #1 seed when they lost to Rutgers; In 2008, the Blue Devils were seeded #3 in Tennesseee's bracket where they lost to #2 Texas A & M. In 2009, Duke lost as the #1 seed to #8 Michigan State. Finally, in 2010, they were again bracketed with Tennessee as a #2, then lost to Baylor in the Sweet 16.

If Maryland had beaten Duke and Miami on their way to the ACC title, I think they could have gotten a 1 seed if we were to falter.

I think we get a 1, win or lose. I also think we win tonight.

If we go to Kingston as a 1 or a 2, I don't think it matters.

i agree with this - largely because the committee members have said in interviews that they will look at teh entire body of work. losing to a horrible Va Tech team puts MD below UCONN no matter how either team did in their respective conference tourneys.

Kentucky has been a train wreck down the stretch of the season. No way that they should be a 2 seed. If they are, they should be the lowest 2 in the tourney.

Nothing against Kingston, Im sure its a nice town and all, but its not a place for Blue Devils to be venturing to in March.... in my opinion. If they arent gonna send us to Raleigh.... just go ahead and send us to Fresno.

Like I was telling a co-worker yesterday, Brenda Freese and MD should send a thank you note and a gift card to NC State, and Wake Forest.

Elite 8, but good synposis. Baylor beat Tennessee in the S16, then edged Duke before falling to UConn in the F4.

Completely agree. I disagree with Creme on this.

Right, Baylor has earned the right to have the weakest #2 seed. That's usually how it goes.

I hate how everyone keeps harping on the loss to an unranked team. That unranked team is now a projected 3 seed and was ranked to start the year. It was after injuries that they accumulated losses that the way voting works is hard to work your way back in. The rankings aren't an assessment of who is the best. It's an assessment of record only. No ACC team has the record of UConn, the schedule of UConn, or the RPI of UConn. What they do have all have is worse losses. Put UConn in the ACC with any one of their conference schedules and UConn is undefeated and tourney champs. Period.

I don't know who "everyone" is, but you can be sure that the committee doesnt care what St John's AP ranking was when they played UConn.

But if UConn loses again tonight, then I think it's fair to question if they're a #1.

I don't think anyone would argue that point. I do think that UCONN could have had a loss in the ACC, as could have ND, Baylor or Stanford, as Duke and Maryland (and Miami) are pretty darn good teams and anything can happen when you have to play good teams twice.

Unless UCONN loses tonight I see no chance of UCONN losing a 1 seed. I still put the top 4 seeds as Baylor, ND, UCONN and Stanford, in that order. Early in the season or not, UCONN beat Stanford, and if head-to-head doesn't count for something then the committee is not doing it's job correctly. The only thing about that game was that Nneka was in early foul trouble, which left Chiney to carry the load, and she was not ready to do that. She may be more capable at this point. Nneka still put up good numbers despite limited minutes.

The committee only cares about how St John's is playing now. I would actually say that UCONN would benefit more by Samson Johnson's playing well tonight and UCONN still having a comfortable win. It would validate Samson Johnson's strength as well as UCONN's ability to pull out a win against another good team.

Absolutely right. Baylor beat Duke in the Elite Eight in 2010.
