Brooke (Lassiter) Stoehr, former player and current coach at Northwestern St (LA).

Tech names NSU's Brooke Stoehr as new women's hoops coach

That's quick moving since Summitt just resigned 10 days ago I believe.

Quick indeed. And yes, it was April 8 when Summitt resigned. The turnaround is even faster considering the AD's statement that day that he would take no action on the coach search until after DeMoss returned from vacation on April 11, so he could "find out where her head is at."

I guess it's safe to conclude that DeMoss wasn't interested in the job.

Another husband and wife coaching duo. Interesting. FWIW, My working with Mrs. CL82 would not end well.

Interesting factoid: Brooke Lassiter was the starting point guard on the La Tech team that lost to UConn in the Elite Eight in 2001. She was also a freshman on Tech's last Final Four team in 1999.

I had forgotten about the player who asked for the release. Given that, it makes some sense for LT to move quickly - will allow everyone to get to a final decision faster.

Blast from the past --- La Tech played against the Huskies in Pittsburgh in the NC tourney, DT's freshman year. Duquesne hosted the second weekend, oddly enough and this was one of the few games I've been lucky enough to watch in person.
At the end of the first half, UConn got possession with time running down. Diana with the ball at the top of the key, Lassiter guarding. Geno waves everybody else off to the wings. DT breaks Brooke down off the dribble, blows by the rest of the defense, makes an easy layup and the buzzer goes off a couple of seconds later.

I still remember the stir in the crowd from the other Husky fans as the play developed- 'cause the team never ran iso 1-on-1s, right? And Geno ran the play for the frosh. If you didn't know it before, you knew it just then - she was going to be special.

Coach ran the iso late in the NC game the following year. The and-1 fouled out Stacey Dales and upped our lead after Oklahoma had made some threes.

T ran it to perfection and broke Dales heart. I can till see her on the bench.

I cannot see her staying around as an assistant either. She was Tyler's baby sitter and did a pretty poor job of it I'd say.

Somehow I would be very surprised if any of Tyler's coaching staff is retained.

Stoehr and her husband have done a great job turning around the Northwestern State (LA) program. Her local playing AND coaching roots should help.

After a debacle like that, the program really needs to clear the deck. If nothing else, just for appearance' sake.

I'm not sure that I care for that sort of nepotism - imagine how the other coaches feel.

I think they put palmolive in the washer and it overflowed, flooding the basement.

In my opinion, that game left a really bad taste in Dales' mouth and it affected the way she covered UConn when she was a sportscaster. She did not like UConn and it showed.

You may be right, but her style "in the booth" was not the greatest and I believe she only lasted a couple of seasons. If by "bad taste" you mean that she somehow felt wrong by the call and held it against UConn, I can't remember her or her coach jumping up and down about the call at the time. That coach, jumping up and down, I'd pay to see! ;) Dales objective was to take Oklahoma to thetitle, so being thwarted hurt bad I'm sure, so not feeling good about or holding a grudge I can see.

I never heard any bitterness in Sales' coverage - she just didn't have much of a style or smoothness. I have heard, over and over, UConn fans posit she was bitter - not sure why. Maybe because they would have been so.

Wow, I'm guessing the pay scale wasn't what attracted this husband and wife team to take the job.

I do recall her in 3 person coverage a couple of times, with the other 2 anchors talking UConn, having a look that cold be interpreted as distain but I think you are right, that was just a Stacey face.

I don't think she disputed the call. I do think she was pretty confident she was going to win that game and it didn't happen. I felt I could see the dislike for UConn come through in her facial expressions and commentary from time to time as a reporter. She didn't last long because she quit. Apparently there was a dispute over ESPN refusing to pay for her to fly first class when some other reporters did have the first-class flight perk.

I've watched Dales doing her ESPN coverage of UConn games and never picked up on any anti-Husky bias in her comments. What did strike me was her rather strident and frenetic speaking style. She was very young at the time and it was a period ('03-'04 ?) when the Huskies were not so dominant as to be a "given" as repeat champions. She's definitely an outspoken, "type-a" personality...eventually lost her gig at ESPN in a spat over being forced to fly coach. But she was a warrior on the court.

I'm embarrassed to say I once did this, sort of.
When my wife and I were a young couple we had friends coming over and I didn't have dishwasher detergent. So I put in a little baking power and very, very, little regular detergent and went on to other things. When I came back there were suds coming from the dishwasher heading across the floor. It was like a sitcom.

I quickly mopped it up. My wife came down and asked what I was doing. I said "well the floor looked a little dirty, so I thought I'd give it a quick mop." She looked at me like I was crazy, but it looked good so she just went on with what she was doing.

Lesson learned, although the dishes came out great and so did the floor.

How you feel about coaches who hire recruit's fathers in order to land the recruit?

Then try wrapping your head around this one: my ex-wife worked for me during a period of a few years. We actually got along better during that time than when we were married.

My hats off to you. If you added us being divorced to the working together scenario, you get this:
