USA Basketball announced its list of 36 players who have accepted invitations to participate in the 2019 Pan Am Games trials to select a 12-player women's basketball roster for the United States. The trials will take place on May 16-20 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I did not see a UConn player listed as a trials participant on the press release that came out this morning.

Was there no availability and/or interest from Crystal Dangerfield or Christyn Williams to represent the U.S. in this event? I am speculating that both would have been invited to the trials. The eventual commitment, if selected on the final roster, requires participation in a training camp from July 23-August 5 and in the Pan Am Games tournament in Lima, Peru from August 6-10.

Sabrina Ionescu did not accept an invite to participate in the Pan Am games trials, but her Oregon teammate Ruthy Hebard did.

Breanna Stewart was the star of the silver medal 2015 USA Pan Am Games squad with points/rebounds averages of 18.6/9.0 for the five games. Stewart, as a high school athlete, also played for the U.S. in the 2011 Pan Am Games in Mexico.

For the USA the PanAm games team has always been sort of the forgotten step child - it is a non-age limited competition that occurs during the summer conflicting with the WNBA and also most summer schools. The team has been a hodgepodge of college kids and a few HS kids and I think once it was actually a full college team.
It is also a competition where USA winning gold is more of a rarity than age specific or true national team events.

The USA has won one gold medal since 1990

Assuming the one with high school Breanna counts, the answer would be last century. As always, it depends on how other countries handle it, but whatever team they come up with from that list is going to be significantly weaker than the one from four years ago.
