Lamar Odom | The Boneyard

Lamar Odom

Well this came out of the blue. Lol. I don't remember him committing to UConn.

I do have an interesting story about that. I was at a Celtics game when Ray Allen was on the Bucks and he was in Boston for the first time as an NBA player. Calhoun happened to be sitting right behind us and we spoke with him a little. My friend says, "Ask Calhoun if we're getting Lamar Odom." I wouldn't do it and he kept needling me about it. So finally I turn around and say, "Coach, are we getting Lamar Odom?" He gave us a wry smile and just shrugged his shoulders. We weren't sure how to take that but we did laugh about it after the game.

I recall that Lamar's name was linked to UC. Sportswriter, Peter Abraham, then a reporter for the Norwich Bulletin had many names linked to the UC program, during recruiting processes. Kevin Garnet, for one, because of his friendship with fellow South Carolinian Ray Allen, Bill Curley, from Boston area. Calhoun pushed hard for him, another name Abraham had linked to UC, was Massachusetts recruit Chris Herren. Herren didn't make it UC, and fell into drug/alcohol issues, but has come out the other side much better for it, doing work in the rehabilitation field, but that's a story for another day. Abraham now works for the Globe in Boston, as a Red Sox beat reporter, but in the early heady days of the Calhoun era, he had many stories about recruits and recruiting.

It’s a shame he got Kardashian-ed. I think I was trying to get lucky one night and was forced into watching a Keeping Up With episode and Lamar was on. Seemed like a real good dude talking to the athlete formerly known as Bruce about his rough upbringing.

I know they’re gajillionaires but there’s a clip out there where Kim’s daughter asks why they are famous and Kim says “well daddy (Kanye) is a singer, performer, artist and mommy has….so many talents I can’t even begin to name them." Even she can’t explain it.

Anyway, enjoy your Sundays!

The year we won our first title. Probably good that we didn't land him, a possible butterfly affect that could cancel all other titles. Who knows, but winning creates momentum.

They were "famous for being famous."
