Lakers really have been terrible in the Jeanie era when it comes to hiring and retaining good coaches huh?

If they want a college coach I think Oates would strongly consider the position. Lakers brass better be sure the next person they offer takes the job or they'll be even more a laughing stock. Maybe they should just make LeBron a player/coach.

A couple wild cards that I would hit up if I was the Lakers.

1) Kelvin Sampson ( U of Houston)
2) David Akinyooye (Assistant coach for Thunder)
3) Chris Quinn (Assistant on Heat)

Don't forget to add Bruce Pearl to any and all lists. One of the most laughable speculations I heard during the Hurley vigil was by Matt Norlander of CBS who opined that Pearl was likely on the short list of UConn's preferred successors to Hurley.

Where do these guys get it from?

Nate Oats.

Maybe the Celtic coach who got fired for screwing the other front office wives.

When I heard Norlander say that I almost spit out my coffee. Just because Benedict knew him from Auburn doesn't make him an option. Pearl is old, has baggage, and is the most un-UConn person/coach imaginable. Jeez, that was quite a reach by Norlander. I could see KO back before we'd even give a moment of thought to Pearl.

I'm sorry...there's one super clear cut answer here.....

Adrian Griffin.

Griffin was strong with the game planning, but he had to learn to dial it back a little with the players. I think he should have learned his lesson after getting canned despite that start.

Jeff Capel. Word is, he wants to stay at Pitt.
Is this serious? Of all the CBB coaches... Jeff Capel? What am I missing? Feels like the Lakers tried to hire the coach who won the NC last years. Then after that didn't work they just started throwing darts at a list of names.

This is easy: Bobby Hurley

Other viable options:
  • Doug Gottlieb
  • Jim Boeheim
  • Stephen A. Smith
  • Rick Pitino
  • Jared Grasso
  • Patrick Ewing
  • Lebron James
I don’t think Doug Gottlieb would give up his radio show to coach the Lakers

Benedict was at Auburn and Pearl is from MA. It wasn't so farfetched.

My reaction had only to do with the breathtaking fall in UConn's respectability if it ever replaced the Hurley image with the Pearl image.

The nearness of the Benedict relationship or the Pearl origins does not nearly offset the farness of the fetchedness.
