Kristi Toliver, an N.B.A. Assistant Who’s Paid Like an Intern
"Because Toliver is a player with the Mystics, owned by Ted Leonsis, under the same corporate umbrella as the Wizards, the league determined that any pay Toliver was to get from the gig would have to come out of the $50,000 total each team has allocated to pay W.N.B.A. players for off-season work. Moreover, much of that had already been promised to Toliver’s teammate, Elena Delle Donne, who typically stays home in the off-season and promotes the Mystics.
"N.B.A. assistants routinely make $100,000 or more, with some earning over $1 million, so how much would the job pay Toliver?
"The answer was $10,000. Or, to put it in perspective, $5,000 less than the fine the N.B.A. recently handed down to Coach Nick Nurse of the Toronto Raptors for “public criticism of the officiating.”

So, the question for the Ex-Harrisonburg, Va,Blue Streak, Toliver, is: If money isn't the issue what is Ms Toliver getting out of the "intern like/Assistant like" job?

Paid like an intern? She is an intern, just like every other assistant coach in America. Not, of course, our own beloved Associate Head Coach. Her pay should be commensurate with her value to the Wizards, and in line with the compensation others doing similar work receive.
Understand? I don't. Or maybe I do. Maybe it's just greed.

The current WNBA CBA puts the limit on player compensation from an NBA team which owns the player’s WNBA team. Otherwise the WNBA salary cap could be abused in this way and create an unfair workaround - WNBA teams owned by different entities could just pay their players more (than the cap allows) through a “separate” business, for a real job or make-work.

She can quit as a player in WNBA, and get paid more for the assistant position? She can always play in oversea should she wish and leave the WNBA position to someone less fortunate.
