Kinda silly post, Sonny. As a team, UConn is shooting 43% from the 3-point line, making almost 9 per game. In fact, the only two players with a 3-pt % under .333 are Stef and MoJeff.

Sure, it comes and goes, and the individual "hot hand" comes and goes, but, overall, this is a very, very good perimeter shooting team.

Against a lot of cupcakes though.

Okay, so take a look at the three games against "non-cupcakes" (need a better term: meat an' potatoes?).

A & M (road) - 43.8%
Purdue (road) - 36.8%
MD - (home) -33.3%

cumulative 19/50, or 38%, and just over 6 per game. Still not bad, particularly against "meaty" opponents. What I found interesting is, in those three games, only twice did a UConn player take more than 1 3-pt shot and make less than 33%. In the A&M game, Morgan Tuck was 0-2, and Bria was 0-2 against MD. Every other player that took >1 shot made at least 1 of 'em, and shot at least 33.3%.

It's not a dumb post. Just an ignorant one. You really don't understand the game if you think that Lewis having an inside game takes away from her outside game. It's just the opposite. Does anyone really think she is driving to the hoop INSTEAD of shooting the 3 pointer?

Here are some stats. I always find that numbers CAN tell the story better.

Last year Lewis took 1 three-pointer every 5 minutes she played.
This year Lewis took 1 three-pointer every 4.4 minutes she played.

With the same number of minute as last year, she would have 28 less 3's for the season. Less than 1 per game.

Last year 51% of Lewis shots were 3's.
This year 53% of Lewis shots were 3's.

She is actually shooting MORE three pointers this year per shot.

Last year she shot 43% fg and 38% 3's.
This year she is shooting 55% fg and 48% 3's.

Looks to me like she is doing just what she should be doing.

Her concussion came from following up someone else's shot in transition. You absolutely cannot tell a player "Hey, listen up, don't bother with following up shots in transition. Just hang outside and we'll hope for someone else to get that transition rebound."

You want players that will strive to be the best that they can be. For KML that pretty much involves the whole package, all of which can provide benefits to the team. To take some of those potential benefits off the table for the sake of something as unpredictable as preventing injury to a player introduces a "princess" factor and other potential chemistry problems. Coaching to prevent all possible injury is much different than coaching to manage certain injury, as with Doty. Coach players scared for them and they will play scared for themselves.

Sonny, do what you are suggesting and the whole triangle offense bogs down and fails.
UCONN doesn't actually run the triangle offense.

This thread has been (I will be polite) an unnecessary waste of time.

Kaleena is a basketball player. The demands of the game include playing both offense and defense, shooting, passing, rebounding, etc.

Not like baseball -- where pitchers don't bat, designated hitters don't field, and provision is made for specialists who pinch-hit or pinch-run -- or football, with its punters, place kickers, long-snappers or return specialists.

Kaleena is not merely a three-point shooter, she is a basketball player who excels as a long-range shooter.

I understand where you're coming from Kibitzer, but the more I think about it this thread provides some potentially great PON material.

They run a form of it along with motion. We see the principles of both on the court depending on the defense and the personnel.

Kaleena has a body that is made for football or rugby, and there is no reason why she should not mix it up. The threes will not be falling every night, and she can contribute to the offense in other ways as well. We wouldn't want her to be a drag on the offense on a night when her 3 was AWOL, would we?

Would you say the same thing about Kelly, who has now played 3+ years without a significant injury despite being in the middle of every scrum? And she is a stick figure physically compared to Kaleena.

Yes, a rugby player with three concussions already.
