Per Rich:

The pt total for @Kaleena23 tied #UConn record for a player in their NCAA debut. Jamelle Elliott had 21 vs. L'ville in '93.

‏Tiffany is joining in on the record making even in her limited action today.

@UC_WBB_SID: REALLY GOOD NOTE ALERT: Tiffany Hayes has joined Moore, Taurasi and Montgomery as only #Huskies in top-10 of games played, pts. and assts.

KML did it with tough, physical play, drawing contact, and hitting FTs. Scorers find a way to score, even when their shot isn't consistently falling. Good to see.

KML is kind of what Geno wanted from Maya. Maya so instinctively avoided contact she had a real challenge to overcome it. KML loves contact.

I thought that KML had more than 7 boards. She shot 7-7 on FTs

Congrats to KML and Tiff on the new records.
Keep up the good work.
5 more games to go.

Yeah, except after what happened in her freshman year, which might have partially cost UConn a crown, the shying away from contact is a natural response. Fact is, the more you mix it up in contact situations when you are concentrating on putting the ball in the hoop and a defender is focusing on stopping you, the more chance you have of something nasty happening. Finding the balance is tough, and getting through 4 years of college ball as the team's leading scorer without some overeager opponent pulling you down for a bad fall is not easy.

Yeah, Maya's situation wasn't one of the kind of contact that KML is getting by posting up.

If you're strong enough to dish it out in the post and live off the contact, you can be a killer with the skills of KML. Not sure it would have been the best course for Maya with her wide-ranging game. Thinking back to BTurner Overdrive and how effective she was in getting the fouls in the post with a somewhat undersized frame and incredible leaping ability, but in the end she paid for it with the wear and tear. It's always a gamble.

It was what Geno wanted from Maya, however. She had an almost mystical way of avoiding contact that allowed her to finish but rarely sent her to the line.
