While compiling a rankings streak list in an article for another sport, I did a quick scan of UConn's streak and found that:
- With the graduation of Stef and Bria, no current UConn player was alive the last time the Huskies were not on an AP rankings release. Kiah is the oldest player on the team, and with a birthday of 3/30/1993, she was born exactly two weeks after the last AP rankings was posted that did not have Connecticut in the list. The last such USA Today list though was posted a week after she was born since it publishes a post tourney poll.
- The streak of consecutive rankings goes back to the preseason rankings of the 1993-94 season for both the AP and USA Today polls. That adds up to 399 polls for the AP and 400 polls for USA Today.
- UConn has been in the top 10 all but 12 weeks in the AP poll (first two polls of 1993-94, 10 polls in 2004-05) and 16 weeks in the USA Today poll (first 4 weeks of 1993-94 and last 12 of 2004-05). That's 97% for AP and 96% for USA Today.
- Since the AP poll began for the 1976-77 season (38 years), 10 teams have been ranked #1 for the entire season, and 5 of those were UConn teams (Louisiana Tech x 2, Texas, UTenn, Baylor are the others). Since the USA Today poll began in 1985-1986 (29 years), the list of all-#1 teams is the same with the exception of the two La Tech teams that spanned the two 1980-82 years, the first of which went 34-0 to win the AIAW championship and the second of which went 35-1 to take the first NCAA crown.
- For the entire span of the USA Today poll and for the AP poll during the last 30 years, UConn is the only school to have either a non-undefeated team go the entire year at #1 (1999-2000) or have an undefeated squad not be #1 the entire year (1994-95).
