If you had to pick someone to represent the team with the media, Kia's the sophisticated choice. I'd choose Gabby to discuss women's issues.

Through the years that Geno and Chris Dailey have been together the UCONN program emphasizes more social, media, fan, attitude, perception, than most other Div. I programs. I realize ALL Div. I schools discuss those traits above but not to the level of Caroline Doty/UCONN does, almost an obsession! UCONN players can't wear nail polish during the season, no social media (tweet, instagram, etc.), cannot just go to the mall in jeans and t-shirt must dress up, when out in a group must wear team warmups or such, no visible tattoos and other team requirements that are much more strict than opponents do!
One of the requirements that UCONN does that surprises me that almost all teams don't do it, is when a UCONN player is subbed out after she slaps 5 with the people on the bench goes and sits next to Caroline Doty for rundown on her performance! Quick feedback on what she did right or wrong!
And just being held to a higher standard than other schools, like Hebrew National!
Great story on Rebecca Lobo when she was a freshman, was talking to a teammate when 2 elderly lady fans came up to talk and when they left RL said something nasty about fans smother the players everywhere! Caroline Doty was standing nearby and ripped into RL that UCONN fans are the life-blood of their program and never, ever knock the fans again! R says to this day any fans that come up to her at games or where ever she treats with respect!

Very true. Geno in the 95 documentary says that Rebecca was amazing in taking a really tremendous media burden that came on like an onslaught after the in season Tennessee victory at Gampel(?). She got it big time and by then she was the face of UConn WBB.

Many teams men and women slap hands when subbing out. Both PSU teams do.

Glad you asked. This is a very old and time honored practice that stems from the first days of civilization down south. Typically in most of the villages, hamlets, and collection of straw huts there was only one of everything. Towels, wash cloths, bar of soap, toothbrush, wiping stick, you get the idea. As one person would trudge up out of the creek they would pass the treasured item on to the next in line who, depending on their age would either hobble down the slippery slope or grab a rope and swing into action. So what you see as a lowly rolled up towel is really a homage to the birth of hygiene that we're all thankful for to this day.

just a reminder that you shouldnt be on the court with a towel so it should have been handed off to someone. I think a towel is the only reasonable thing. A water bottle may cause a spill on the floor.

Yeah I understand that UConn doesn't do... cause they "communicate" but hey whatever works
