It seems with the Harrison twins returning and other returning players and the committed recruits for next year, they have more than 13 scholarship players. Does anyone know for sure? What happens when this happens? I am sure they expected more freshmen to leave.

When no upper classmen are on scholarship, it leaves a lot for freshman and sophomores.

They had a slight problem in Cal's early years until all the remaining upper classmen from the previous regime were gone, but now all schollies are available for freshman and sophomores.

I dont get how they arent in violation of some sort of academic violation with all these players leaving school months before the year ends... is there some sort of loophole?

As long as they r on track for their underwater basket weaving they r ok. They probably take an extreme light load or something? And take summer classes freshman year or something? I would b interested to know how Calipari games the system.

From what I've read, they enroll early and take 'classes' in the summer before freshman year. Take a normal (or 1 class below) load in the fall and a super light load in the spring. The spring consists of 'online' or 'correspondence' courses and independent 'study' (ahem).

I think a lot of schools do that. A lot of athletes take about 6-9 credits over the summer and then take about a course less than normal during both semesters of the school year.

UConn guys take summer classes every year...

Without question. I just know that their spring semester is about 2 classes, and many of them (especially NBA prospects) don't ever need to be in a physical classroom. 'Independent study' as a freshman is a joke.

Some players who declare for the draft take courses in things like nutrition or exercise sciences. Then they log their workouts or their food intake as part of their training and use that as an assignment for their course work.

What I am curious about is if let's say 3-4 more players had declared. Then what does UK do? Do they take a bunch of lowly ranked uncommitted recruits to fill their roster?
