USA Camp scrimmage. End of first quarter now. Drummond was a bit jittery and didn't finish a couple times, Kemba was a bit too cute with a no-look. Only a couple minutes played so far.

Drummond looked good in the second half after struggling a bit in the first half. His hands weren't as good as I'm accustomed to, especially in the first half (maybe a bit jittery). Still not sure he's skilled enough for the international game, but he has time to add to his repertoire. He's probably a 2020 prospect more than 2016.

Kemba was perhaps a little disappointing - a few nice passes (two alley-oops in particular), but wasn't really able to break his man down, and Lawson went by him a couple times. He played off the ball quite a bit though - Wall played point with him on the second unit. Point guard is probably too loaded for him to have much hope of being an Olympian, but if he adds a few more point guard skills out of this camp, he'll be better for Charlotte.

Irving and Davis have been head and shoulders better than the field - although Davis is often a big-time dog getting back on D. He's stretched his range out to 20 feet, though - so he looks like a legit future All-Star.

Given his physical size that approximates Chris Paul, Kemba has to become nearly as good as him in order to get an Olympian spot. If CP3 opts out which is doubtful, then there's Williams, Wall, Irving, Dillard, and Lawson to compete against. However, Kemba as backup PG in the 2018 World Championship isn't impossible. Heinrich of Chicago Bulls snagged one in 2008. And Kemba is much better than Heinrich.

Me thinks Jeremy Lin could get an invite if his 2013-14 season kicks up a notch - like what happened in Linsanity - but needs a full year to showcase consistency. BTW, does anyone know why Rondo is not on the Olympic team?

I suspect Paul and Rose will have spots locked down as long as they want them. Wall and Irving will battle for the other spot. Nobody else really has a chance barring injuries/unforeseen leaps in play. What Kemba should really be aiming for is the world championships next Summer - a lot of the top guys generally opt to sit that one out and it's a great experience for those who do play. I remember Rose, Westbrook, Curry, and Durant among others all making huge leaps after playing in those games.

You would think Coach K would like to have a guy like JC around for this - I wonder if he was asked? Jeff Capel is there though after his years of excellent coaching!!

Rondo had a clash with coaches over being left off in favor of other PG a couple years ago. Also, his gsme doesnt translate well since he cannot take advantage of the shorter 3 pt line.

Irving is a virtual lock for next summer and 2016. He is way better than Wall and has the skills to go right at Paul and Rose. I really enjoy Irving's game. The only potential hiccup for him are injuries. Kid has serious game.

I think Irving has the potential to be the best PG in the league in a few years.

Kyrie is great and poised to be one of the best PGs in the league, but he's got a LOT of work to do defensively to be there with Rose and CP3.

Unfortunately I don't think Kemba had a great shot to make the team because the NBA is loaded with talented point guards nowadays. As for Drummond, I think he has a decent chance to make the team because so few players have his kind of physical abilities. Tyson Chandler was the starting center on Team USA for the last team and Drummond is the same kind of player, but bigger and a better athlete. He'll have his best shot at making it if the coaches understand how good he's going to be in 2-3 years.

Actually agree with pretty much all of this. As much as we all love Kemba, I can't see him ever being a roster finalist for team USA. I think Andre has a great chance in the next few years.

I don't agree that Irving is way better than Wall. Wall made a huge leap at the end of last season (24, 8, and 5 on 47/37/79 shooting splits) and nobody really seemed to notice because the Wizards were so far out of contention. The entie perception of Wall and Irving is strange to me. Irving is viewed as a budding superstar and Wall is viewed as a disappointment, meanwhile, Wall is three months older and putting up virtually identical numbers.

Wall doesn't have a consistent jump shot where Kyrie can hurt you in so many ways on the floor.

Kyrie also isn't nearly the athlete Wall is.

That doesn't mean a whole lot. Kyrie has had a brighter first two years than Wall's first three years. They both played on awful teams too.

let's not forget who Kyrie's College coach was. And I'm not saying he won't deserve it. He really is a great talent and might be even better in the International game

I'll grant you Irving had a better first two years than Wall did. It just strikes me as a bit odd that people have been so eager to write off Wall, when he's only 22-years-old and looks to have maybe turned the corner. The Irving praise is well-deserved, but I do think people are a bit eager to bill him as a superstar when he still has weaknesses in his game, much like Wall. I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say athleticism "doesn't mean a whole lot". It arguably means Wall has a higher ceiling than Irving, and that what he displayed at the end of last season is just a glimpse of the player he can be. Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if Wall became as good as Derrick Rose, or even better. They're similarly inhumane athletically, they both played for Calipari, and both of them needed to work on their jump shot in their first couple seasons in the league. Rose had the benefit of landing in a franchise with a sound veteran infrastructure surrounded by pro's pro's like Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, Kirk Heinrich, etc. I think Wall might get there if he becomes more reliable with his jumper. I'm not willing to pencil Kyrie onto the 2016 olympic team just yet when Wall is a budding star and Rose and Paul will still be in their primes or close to it.
