I was at the SMU game yesterday and saw Katie Lou miss a a bunch of wide open threes. She ended up 1 of 7 for the game. At half time I was watching her shoot threes. She made five in a row, missed two, then made 4 more in a row before she changed to some other activity. So, she can really shoot the threes but why they are not going in with greater frequency in the games is unknown to me.

There were a lot of UCONN fans there. In total, we made a lot more noise than the SMU fans.

You could all be clearly heard on the telecast, though the Uconn, Huskies, Uconn, Huskies responses were a little ragged - the travel fans need some practice!

Don't know why but I have seen all her shots this year and Online one or possily two where bad shots.

Katie Lou's thinking too much. She almost always shoots a 3 or more to start the game. She should try driving and try pull up jump shots from 2. When she plays a complete game, she has more success with the three. The one difference I see in Katie Lou and Kaleena's shot is that Kaleena had much less motion. Katie Lou will be fine. She just needs to stop thinking and go out and do what she knows to do.

I think there is a problem with this idea -- opponents don't expect her to make many 3's, so they are (or appear to be) intentionally leaving her open for 3-point shots and defending her other possible offensive moves, such as those that you mention. In other words, they have figured out what you have figured out.

I still think she should take those open 3's, and just work through the problem. She did have a 5-for-8 game recently, so it can happen, and then some opponent will be very sorry.

The issue is they are generally leaving everyone open from three and sagging in the lane for fear of Stewart or Tuck beating them down low. That is why most games have started with 5 of the first 8 shots or so being wide open threes from Kia, Lou, Moriah, Tuck, or Stewart. It isn't until they start working the mid-range that the offense starts to flow. Nice to see Lou run through the foul line area for some mid range looks like Stewart.

In watching KLS I've noticed from her first exhibition game she's been hitting the back of the rim on her 3's, especially early. This is usually the sign of over jumping. That is until the last game when most of her misses were the front of the rim. That is usually the sign of tired legs, or perhaps under compensation. Against UCF she started to get the "yips", meaning she began to over think her shot selection and lost some confidence. On one shot she missed the rim entirely. And yes, step up and shoot the two. Step around the screen and shoot the two. Dribble inside and pull up. She'll figure it out.

Or a shot that is too flat and direct.

She's a shooter. She can't play scared. She should continue to keep shooting the shots she has hit all her life and that includes 3's. To over-think or become scared is wrong imo. If she is open most of the time vs teams like we'll play most of the year- she should show no hesitation shooting shots she has hit the past 5 or so years of her life.

I've very excited what I see from KLS. Offensively she is a supreme passer, has a supreme understanding of how to play, has a good handle and can hit REAL jump shots. If you were to have told me to start the year what does she need to improve most with in her offensive game - and her 3pt shooting would be near the top- I would have been frightened (because it meant she was so bad at the others) or pumped-- I am pretty pumped. Who doesn't think her shot will improve a great deal from now throughout her career? And with all the other things she has shown-- just wow.

Geno is fearsome (with all those banners and gold medals behind him). No wonder the greatest freshmen all seem to have the jitters.
I think this is simply the case of the coming greatness of KLS.

maybe her problem is that she's reading this blog and taking all the contradictory advice? (she'll be great--she almost is already)
