I don't put too much stock into these polls for how things will actually play out on the court, but Memphis not cracking the top 10 with the #1 recruiting class and #1 overall player shows how far the AAC still has to go to get national respect. No other AAC team on the list, they dropped Houston from the rankings.

I think it's less AAC and more "how much do we trust Penny?"

Also, it's not the most top heavy "best class" and there's basically nothing returning there.

There's obviously Wiseman, but then Achiuwa is quite raw for a top 15 guy and then no other top 35 recruits. Ellis, Jeffries, and Quinones are top 75 guys, but they're not necessarily instant impact. It's more of a quantity than a quality (other than Wiseman) class. Duke, Kentucky, Arizona, and Washington all have better 2nd recruits than Memphis.

Anyone can give “way too early” top 25 and The end result will never be close to their predictions. It’s something sports analysts do because they have nothing better to write to write about. If we were in it, still doesn’t matter. In 2011 we won the championship, I think we were preseason ranked 68.

And in 2016 were we around #16.
