Saw this article and thought it was interesting in light of all the discussion about Bouknight's and Gaffney's recruiting rankings.

Kansas has commits from a guard ranked 114 in the 247Sports Composite and a forward ranked 127 in the 247Sports Composite. Just a good example that you obviously can't obsess about the recruiting rankings. Trust your coaching staff.

McBride, the No. 114-ranked recruit in the 247Sports Composite for the class of 2019, announced his commitment to the University of Kansas on Monday, choosing the Jayhawks over Auburn and Virginia. A four-star combo guard, McBride saw his recruitment blow up after KU assistant Kurtis Townsend and the KU staff passed along his offer at the Fab48 tournament in Las Vegas, he recalled.

McBride now joins Christian Braun as the second member of KU basketball's 2019 class. Braun, a four-star small forward and the No. 127-ranked player in the 247Sports Composite, committed to KU back on Sept. 17.

True, but on the other hand, they also have two five star top-20ish players committed as well, so the situations aren't the most comparable right now. I agree with Walker that Kansas does a great job of melding a team out of highly ranked guys and some lesser known recruits. The recruiting classes that have served UConn well have done the same - surrounded one or two very highly ranked guys with solid under the radar kids.

Neither Mason or Graham were top 100 at the time of their commitment. KU does a good job of mixing in 4 year players with one and two and dones.

This is absolutely a key to success. Experience matters, and it especially matters in March. Counting on freshman guards in March is a risky strategy. UConn's best teams often had a similar makeup.

Was excited to see the commitment from McBride, Jayhawks needed a PG in this class, preferably one they can count on for at least 3 years.
