Talk about being under the radar.

He is 24-2 at Washington and 103-11 as a head coach.

Good thing UW is moving to the BiG — otw, he would’ve been an easy target for a richer school. As it is, he still might draw interest.

I think he is a really good coach, but he has had some good fortune when it comes to QB. He did get lucky with Michael Penix transferring to Washington. He was Penix' OC at Indiana in 2019 and Penix played well for him and he was looking for a new school. Coincidently, Washington hired Penix' recruiter at Indiana (he had been fired by Indiana) as TE coach the same day Penix committed to Washington. At Fresno St., he inherited QB Jake Haener who ended up being a 4th round NFL draft pick.

I think Washington only gets a 50% payout from the Big 10 for the first several years, so it will be a little while until they are into the big money. Hopefully they can hold onto DeBoer for the meantime.

good coaches need good talent (look at Mora) - Deboer is a good coach, period.
The "but" is not necessary, because what followed the "but" is true for many* prominent college coaches.
It's not like Penix is bailing out a sub-par offensive plan - clearly the game plan is beyond solid, 13 times in a row (20 times total dating back to last year).

* = (i'm tempted to say "every coach" but i don't want to be called out on some obsucre historical "good coach/bad QB/wins nonetheless" data proving othewise; i'm sure the data exists).

Maybe because he’s very low key and doesn’t have a very loud personality has to be a factor in being under the radar. He keeps his mouth shut and just wins.

They are a top 25 team in terms of raising money (over $400 million donated to the sports dept. 2005-22) - they will find a booster to pay the salary.

What's 50% of the payout? The same as the Big 12 full payment? lol!

He is a very good coach who has some serious talent as the wide receivers are awesome and Penix is good as just about any quarterback in college

I'll take Penix over any other college QB and that trio of receivers over any other team's 3 best. OL is really good. Running game has been inconsistent but Johnson was good the second half of the season. Some issues on defense.

You keep talking about the recruiting and talent on the team like that's purely coincidental and not a major part of being a college football coach

The issue with Penix is his injuries to his ACL's two times and shoulder issue

Penix is 23 and definitely poised and gifted. Washington almost gave that game away in the last minute

Its pretty amazing how Jimmy Sexton is the agent for all the coaches mentioned for Alabama. He floats their names, gets all of them raises and then scores the winning selection. No surprise that Kalen DeBoer recently signed with Sexton. He'll become the new Alabama HC.

Guess he's not under the radar anymore.

Washington's Kalen DeBoer, who guided the Huskies to a Pac-12 championship and a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship game this past season, has agreed to a deal to become the next head coach at Alabama, sources told ESPN on Friday.

Alabama has moved quickly to identify Nick Saban's successor as head football coach. Washington coach Kalen DeBoer, 49, has informed his team that he will be accepting the Crimson Tide job to replace the legendary Saban, who announced his retirement on Wednesday after 17 seasons leading the program, according to multiple reports.

That sucks for Washington. They’ve been a consistently good program since Peterson took over. They’ll leans someone good, but Daboer is leaving out on top. If he was able to make Washington that good, he’s going to win a title at Alabama in the next 5 years

Is the entire coaching staff leaving Alabama just because Saban is retiring and Deboer is coming in? That’s a lot of recruiting power going up in smoke. You would think the AD’s door would be wide open.

25-3 in 2 years with a pretty suspect defense. He's gonna have dudes on the defensive side of the ball showing up on his doorstep at Alabama that he never would've dreamed of getting at UW.

On the flip side it's not gonna be that easy replicating Penix at QB w/ Odunze, McMillan and Polk to throw the ball to, even at Bama.
