I'm getting sick of the doom and gloomers as the answer is simple: Just win! During the first BE raid, everyone said the BCS bid would be gone. Well, here were the Sagarin Ratings for the first 3 years of the New Big East 2005, 2006, and 2007:
2005
BE: 6th rated conference
WVU rated 6
Louisville. 22
Rutgers. 53
2006
BE: 2nd rated conference
Louisville 5
WVU. 10
Rutgers. 12
2007
BE: 4 th rated conference
WVU 3
Cincinnati 19
USF 20
In 2008, 2009, and 2010, the BE was rated the 5th, 5th, and 6th rated conference. This year, the BE is the 5th rated conference, and believe it not, if you pull Syracuse and Pitt out of the ranking, the BE's average rating actually goes up!
There is no other conference that threatens the BE at number 6 as the Mountain West without TCU and possibly Air Force becomes rated about equal to the MAC, with one good team Boise St.
Let's look at the 6 remaining BE schools and see where they are heading:
WVU is heading up after the Stewart debacle
Rutgers is heading up.
Louisville is heading up after the Kragthorpe debacle.
Cincinnati is heading up after Butch Jones first year.
USF is tough to read, but I would think up.
UConn is heading down, at least in the ST.
End of the day, it is up to the teams in the BE to Just Win!
