… with the 12:00 start today while UConn gets the closer to prime time 6:30/700 start. I would be upset to be the number 1 seed and have to play at 12:00

The time slots are chosen for TV. As UConn is more popular than Louisville, giving UConn a better TV time slot makes sense.

Instead of Giving Louisville the Lead off spot, would ESPN be better off starting their broadcast with a game that is most likely going to be competitive. A #1 Seed vs a 16 seed is going to be a blowout, like it was.

I am wondering if this has always been the way it is today.
Last year, as the 1 seed, we had the 11AM start.
(And wasn't it actually 11AM in Louisville?)

You beat me to the punch.

In the past UConn has played 1st round games as early as 11AM.

Not on a weekday. ESPN is going to pick games to put on in the late afternoon evening that will draw audiences in their minds. They know viewership is going to be slim pickin's on Friday afternoons before the work day ends no matter who plays. Also not likely that a 2 v 15 is going to be competitive.

Yes, last year it was 11am on a Saturday morning, no work or school to conflict.

Perhaps 11:00am going to the Number 1 seed is considered giving them more time to rest/reset before the next game

Don't be upset. Geno would prefer the noon tip-off. He likes the team to get up, eat, shoot around, and go play. He hates sitting around all day waiting for the game to begin. Ask him how he feels about 9PM starts, and watch him go ballistic.

Let them take a short nap at halftime.

Gives them more rest. Not a big deal. Looks like they don’t like early starts though.
