I'm still baffled by the way everyone viewed that Duke team. Yes, they were very good, in a ten game series however we beat them seven times.

I mean, it did take them shooting over 80% for the game to win, but it was a conference opponent that Georgetown only beat by 2 on the road and 7 at home.

It was an impressive spelling but you remembered Jake well since he did a great job on Elton Brand that day.

People also forget that UConn and Duke shared a couple of common opponents that year. They both played Michigan st that year(Duke twice). UConn dusted MSU by 14, Duke struggled with them both times their total margin in both games was only 12. They also both play St. John’s that year Duke played them close winning by 4 UConn also beat them by 4 in the regular season and ran them off the court in the BET.

What probably hurt UConn was the late year loss to Miami and then struggling with SH in the big east tournament, then again against Gonzaga in the elite 8.

To their credit that Duke team ran through everyone but Cincinnati ST JOHNS and Michigan st that year in the regular season. They obliterated the ACC in the ACCT

Of course UConn playing a ton of close games that year helped them in the end they didn’t get tight late against Duke on the other hand Dukes last two possessions you could tell they were a team that had not been in those situations all year and didn’t know what to do.
