I still can't believe the Nats are going to trade him but they will score a freaking haul.

The MLB story has Gleyber, Volpe AND Dominguez going to the Nats.

They Yanks will pay dearly to keep Soto out of Fenway.

The bad news for all the bidders is that Uncle $teve can and will offer more than anyone else, but the Nats won’t trade to the Mets, so his offer will be used to drive the negotiations into the stratosphere, probably right up to August 2nd.

im not really sure aboot all this. i heard some talk framing it as judge for 7 or this guy for 14. feels like it came on rather quickly, almost publicity managed, and im not clear how this guy got the 'sliced bread' tag.

IMO, Yankees’ #1 job here is to balloon the asking price for whichever team acquired him.

Soto and Bell to the Padres for:
  • 1B Eric Hosmer (to help offset costs)
  • SS CJ Abrams (Padres #1 prospect of '21)
  • LHP Mackenzie Gore (3rd overall pick of '17, Padres' #4 prospect of '21)
  • OF Robert Hassell, #1 prospect, #21 overall
  • OF James Wood, #3 prospect, #88 overall
  • RHP Jarlin Susana, #14 prospect
For comparison Volpe is MLB's #8 prospect, Peraza is #36, Dominguez is #37, Wells is #69.

The good news for the Mets is the Padres and Dodgers will knock one of each other out before it matters. And you’d expect to beat one of them on the way to a ring. So nothing changes there. And the Nats become a doormat.

The Nationals were already a doormat, they just went from the worst team in baseball to the worst team in baseball.

So they’re NO different losing Soto and Josh Bell.
