On watching the FF in person:

"I obviously always knew that UConn had a tremendous fan following. And it gave me another sense of exactly how they [UConn] play. It was very interesting for me to see that in person; how fast the game is played, how physical UConn was.”

Courtney and her Mom and Dad enjoyed the trophy presentation after the NC outside the arena. The Ekmark family were active participants, celebrating with the fans and families of the players. Courtney is very observant, kind, and sharing. And I guess that is all I am allowed to say. Just observations. :)

In my mind C. Ekmark is going to be A hybrid player of a Kelly F. with a KML shooting touch! She'll have a great career in UConn!

The big advantage Courtney has is that she is the daughter of a coach. Those players tend to be more cerebral. Whereas some players would be overwhelmed by the speed and physicality of the college game, she will use that as a challenge to improve.

It helped me be able to visualize what it might be like a couple of years when it is me out on the floor.

Yes, when she is out on the NC floor. :)

Good article. Sounds like UCONN has a winner.

Now that is one young lady committed to UCONN and Nat. Championships. I have followed her since she was a freshman in high school. I've said it before and I'll say it again here : She will either start as a freshman or get starter's minutes. Like Kelly, she is a coache's daughter with all the funamentals, but with a scorer's mentality. I remember after Kelly had accepted UCONN'S offer she told Geno, "I am coming to get 4 more"! What was Courtney's # 1 goal ? National Championships at UCONN !

Love her attitude, but I don't see how she could start. Unless there were injuries, so hopefully not. 1) most freshmen don't start at UCONN 2) with KML, Stewart, Jefferson, Tuck and hopefully Stokes (maybe Banks) as starters, it would be really, really hard to break into that starting lineup.

The Freshmen may not see huge minutes their 1st year, but Soph year on, there will be lot's and lot's of minutes to go around.

Man, things are really looking good the next couple of years. :)

Very nice to see she is already thinking and preparing for her college years in Storrs....Especially good to see she has a personal trainer to get her body right and to also prevent some injuries. I have never seen her play but I like this young lady's attitude already.

I think Courtney has some elements of Diana and Ann S. in her.

When was the last time UConn went through a whole season without injuries? If you've got a dozen players on the roster, there's gonna be injuries. That's one reason why having a recruiting class of 1 player is a bad idea; if you graduate a post player and then a post player gets injured the next season but your incoming class of 1 is a perimeter player, your seasonlong options as coach just shrank markedly.

ummm, hmmmm, ummmm.....I'm thinking, I'm thinking.

Of course it's not ideal. But we've done ok with it before. Faris' class worked out pretty well.

Also integrating 1 freshmen (next year) is easier than integrating up to 5/6 (hopefully) the following year. Although with KML, Banks, Stokes, Stewart, Jefferson, Tuck, Chong......I'm not even really that worried about the following year. :D

Good question. Was there one, anyone? I don't mean the usual banged-up, or missing a game with the flu or whatever. I mean season-ending injuries.

Scary thought to think that every season has one, isn't it? I hope it's not true.

Don't think we had one in 2011-2012. Nor 2009-2010.

You can sustain one small recruiting class. Two in a row can be really problematic. It helps when the one player is really good, stays healthy, and doesn't transfer. After the really, really good 2011 class and the spectacular 2012 class, UConn can sustain the single-player 2013 class...especially since 2014 is shaping up nicely. And if Chong ends up being the second coming of Kelly Faris, even better.

A great example was the 1999 class, which only had KJ (who, in fact, transferred). This wasn't a big problem given the TASS(K) Force class of 1998 and getting D in 2000.

Wonk, with the 1 player class of Faris, Uconn won two national championships and went to two other final fours.

And with the 1 player class of Chong, I expect similar results.

The one year small class problems are overstated.
