I don't think DT is looking at it (trying to play now, vs. Being careful and prepping for the Olympics) as a tough decision at all. It's the Olympics, and she can't count on another shot at a Gold Medal.. She is probably just like Geno. They both look at the Olympics as the ultimate challenge. As for Phoenix and the WNBA, there is always later this season, and next year. Other than not being happy with watching Phoenix lose without her, it's a no brainer.

Phx is going nowhere fast this year IMHO. if i were them i'd root for Diana to take as much time as she needs and hope that Phx misses the playoffs. i know you don't want to tell the fans that, but if they land in the bottom 4 they'd have something like a 50% shot at getting Griner or EDD and if you add in Diggins (not sure who the 4th best player in their class will be, it could even be a foreign player), but Griner obviously would be the best for them...

Is that to say that a player who is getting paid by one organization can place their playing priority on the Olympics? Is it even ethical?

Well, Diana is a star, and her playing in the Olympics just adds to her appeal in Phoenix. I would think Phoenix would place a priority on keeping her healthy, allowing her to play in the Olympics and get some more recognition, fans, etc, and hope she comes back healthy. If they try to get her back too soon she could aggravate it further and help absolutely nobody.

Given that Penny Taylor is also out this year, it may pay Phoenix to tank and get into the lottery for long term gain. Next year, if that have Penny healthy, Diana healthy, and Griner, they will be a very strong team.
