It's hard now to believe that UConn started out 4-28 in the regular season Big East games after joining the conference three years before Geno and CD came. Or that in the 9-team conference it was that first year with Geno that they did not have to be in the Toilet Bowl game, though they had finished in a tie for 7th the year before but lost the tie-breaker factor to Georgetown. But one thing Jean Balthaser had over Geno is that her 1983-84 team won a BET game in their second chance, while Geno's teams would lose their BET game the first three years before finally getting the #1 seed in 1988-89 and sweeping to the title. That was one nice thing about playing in the Toilet Bowl; you had a decent shot of winning a game.
