Can there still be any doubt about who UConn's Go-To player is? Seems that Geno ended any debate.

This is funny! KML was the player that carried the team on her back and Geno thinks she should have scored 7 more. Geno knows KLM has matured by leaps and bounds since her sulking ways of last year and he treats her the same way he did with Maya, he uses her as an example for the others and he knows she gets it. KLM is on her way to becoming a captain next year...

This is why I love geno he knows his players and what buttons to push kml can handle this and it pushes her to be better.

I wonder if other coaches throw their star player under the bus when Kelly Farris shuts them down....

That's true for almost every Courant article on the wbb team. Try reading some of the weekly "chats" if you want a few laughs.

He's comparing her to the very best in Diana and Maya. She has shown a tendency to defer at UConn. I think she has scored 25 points a half dozen times or so. It's as if she does not want to be greedy. In her final high school game, Mater Dei won the state championship because KML took over the game. She outscored the entire Berkeley team in the second half. She now can do that at this level. As long as she is getting good looks, I want her taking far more shots.

This is all about pushing buttons. KML is great. She wants to be transcendent and has the capacity to be so. Geno isn't going to let her be comfortable with anything less than she's capable of becoming.

Wow. He expects her to be able to take over every game and win it. Period That is a lot of pressure on anyone. Taurasi could take it. So could Maya. I don't know the KML can. We shall see.

I think she can. She is mature and responsible beyond her years. She did not come to UConn to finish second.

See if this makes sense to anyone other than me. Geno really instills selflessness in his players. He even said in an interview that selfishness is the thing he hates most about a person. Now KML is a product of this environment for two years and everyone has noticed how she is becoming a complete player by working so hard to develop her other skills to help the team out by more than just shooting. I find it odd that Geno is talking about her scoring 40 points per game when he seems to be all about teamwork. It might be just to motivate KML a little but I think it may set a bad pattern for the other players. It might give them the don't shoot pass it to KML attitude. He's probably just still stinging from the Baylor game.

It's a bit odd, but Kaleena helps her team most by shooting more. It's her job. :)

As long as she gets good looks, I like the idea. Take at least 20 shots.

Shooting more does not equate with being selfish.

The point of running an offence is to score. If a play gets you open, and you don't take the shot, that's actually pretty selfish. And you insult the efforts of your teammates to get you open.

One could argue that putting a team on your back, and having everyone's hopes and dreams for a NC depend on your decisions, depend on your skills, that that's actually pretty darn selfless.

Well, I guess that answered my question. Thanks for everyone's input. I should always go back to rule #1... Trust Geno!

She starred in the Maya Moore role today. The subplot was to outscore the other team in the first half.

I still think 8 shots is not enough, even in a game like this.
