Freshman running back Joe Williams is, well, let’s say has been the real deal in practice and the explosive post-grad player from Fork Union Military Academy was the real deal in the scrimmage, too. The 5-11, 201-pound Williams ran well between the tackles for chunks of yardage but he’s often referred to as a homerun hitter and here’s why. He broke one run where he kind of tip-toed into the pile, accelerated and broke to the right sideline. When the defense began trying to angle him off he cut all the way back against the grain, to the middle of the field, where no one was and then when it tried to adjust to him again he cut back toward the right sideline making the defense look totally confused. There were a few coaches way down near the end zone that Williams ran up on real fast. The kid has great vision, like Jordan Todman in the Notre Dame-game type vision.
“I basically see the blitzes when I saw the play coming I saw the linebacker from the away side coming, I saw the DB get cut and I was like ‘allright I gotta chance with this play’ and then lanes started flowing and then I was pretty good until I got down there where all the coaches were and I was like where is everybody coming from?” Williams said laughing
If putting the best talent on the field is what it’s about then Joe Williams will be playing this year. He may be – maybe – quicker than JT. (courant.com)
Again, this is with our O-Line blocking for him... against our DEFENSE! Max and Joe deserve there shot on the field... not just one carry each... at least a few carries each!
