Like others once they retire it seems the life just goes out.

Sad loss and now has no chance to restore his legacy.

Agreed Wbbfan. no one can live forever, and of course he was a legend, but it's unfortunate his legacy has been so tarnished. RIP JoPa.

What a shame... I was hoping he would have a chance for another say...

John Altavilla just tweeted that Paterno's family is saying Joe is still alive.

OK now that is really bad. CBS Sports has up a big article about his death.

OMG how awful. i can't imagine how they wrote an article already when apparently he's still alive. yikes!! i know death is not funny, but if he pulls through, i could see him at a press conference "The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated", a-la the great Mark Twain...

CBS Sports has now retracted the article...

Scott Paterno tweeted that his dad is alive and the family asks for our prayers.

You kidding me, Eric? Every news outlet has a story just waiting in the wings ready to go. Trust me, all the print press are doing their final edits on their Jo Pa "obit" stories, and all the video media is putting the final touches on their videographies of his life and legacy. It is what they do.

Every news agency has an obit already written for every major public figure just in case.

If you track the story backwards, it apparently started with a Penn State blog... Onward State...

I've sent them mine, just so they will be ready. Don't want them to be caught off guard.

I cannot agree with the sad loss and legacy comment...He had a chance to maintain his legacy and he chose secrecy.....
I was always of the opinion, you had to have all the facts before judging someone. None of us have whar really happened except
that he did report to the proper authorities, ( what he was told by assistant). Did the university highbrows do nothing after that but threw
Joe Paterno under the bus? We don't know that either
