Don't think he realizes UConn has a better record than Maryland since 2002. We'd be an upgrade to football and definitely basketball. But, the feeling is FSU would use UConn as a scapegoat to leave the ACC for the B12. You know they will monitor the MD exit fee very closely.

So, if FSU left, their closest Conf team would be where, WVU, 800 miles away? And next closest in OK. 1000 miles away.

Is that what their fans want? They aren't getting into SEC, regardless of ACC changes.

@Mengus22: It's gonna be UConn. RT @mgs67: @accfootballnews If the ACC adds UConn I hope my school is leaving. Go Noles!

And he's been destroying UConn all day

They still are...

Fans are never considered. RT @Stelve64: @Mengus22 99% of FSU fans want Louisville. I definitely don't want uconn

@Mengus22 @Stelve64 imo this desire extends beyond fans. ACC is not in a place to add another BB school & cant justify that to CU, FSU, etc

Clemson Board of Trustees chair says they'd prefer a school that "adds to football prowess" of ACC usatoday.com/story/sports/c…

People have it in their minds that Louisville is somehow an uber football school suddenly.

I can't remember them beating teams of note. Maybe my memory is bad, who knows. I just know they were blown out by Syracuse in a year when Louisville was leading the league.

The ACC would be fools to let FSU's bitching keep UConn out. FSU doesn't really care who gets in, because FSU wants out regardless. The exit fee isn't gonna stop them, there are apparently ways around it.

Their schedule this year has been VERY soft. Almost lost to Florida Atlantic or International, one of them. Best win is VS UNC who lost to Wake Forest.

ACC needs to think of this strategically. They should have taken UConn and RU and completed the Atlantic Coast lockdown or at least RU/SU SU/UConn.

If they leave UConn, they have to fear that the Big 10 will look to further penetrate into their territory and maybe take UConn and UVA. Big is never coming after Louisville as part of anything.

That is what I am getting at. ESPN seems to think ville has more bball success late and their football is a power house.

I just posted on a different thread that chatter around several national sites is that Louisville is on par with Alabama and UConn would lead to the immediate collapse of any conference.

FSU would be playing for a championship this year possibly if they didn't lose to a lousy NCST team.

So, how could CT not at least replace MD?

Former commish Gene Corrigan thinks the ACC has problems with Louisville or UConn: "They aren't the answer" usatoday.com/story/sports/c…

Also that ville bball has natural rivals in acc ..And that villes 300k population is a major penetration into the tv market. Wasn't Louisville in conference USA not too long ago?

There are no other answers. That is the problem the NNBE faced too.

The answer is to take both and tell ND they are either in or out. If out, take Cincy. You load basketball, strengthen football and can afford to lose as many as 4 members and still be pretty good.

If it is not UConn or UL then who the hell else is there? I mean really now....

This may be what the holdup is as the ACC has very few choices left.

If they are to maintain their academic standards (something important enough for many of their members to keep WVU out when including them & UConn with Pitt & Cuse would have locked up the entire east coast and kept the serious football members happy), the only legitimate candidate is UConn and, if more than one school is needed, some compromise will have to be reached.

I imagine that priority one for the ACC (Swofford) is continuous dialog with FSU (and on a smaller level Clemson) to keep them happy and in the fold. Priority two is the remainder of the conference as a whole to determine a strategy (if something beyond the $50 mm is needed) to keep others at bay if the SEC and/or B1G comes looking for members 15 & 16. Once this is hammered out, a strategy on what to do to replace one (if it is only MD) or more than one member moves to the top of the list.

As I stated a few days ago, I believe that if the ACC needs only one member, we are in. If they need to add two, there is a very strong possibility that they add zero instead.

This is the part in realignment where barring decisions to move by the big fish, such as FSU, Texas or Clemson, the conferences reach vastly diminishing returns. McMurphy says that moving the Big 12 from the ACC doesn't offer a big enough financial reward, so the conventional wisdom still says that FSU and Clemson.

UConn, Louisville, Maryland and Rutgers? Those are just power consolidation moves.

I think that some of this is just schools and Commissioners playing a big game of "ha! Take That!" That's irrational, fear, jealousy and greed can be powerful motivators.

I'm sure FSU - and the rest of the ACC - wishes Clemson added some football prowess, too.
The only way the ACC adds football powers is to raid SEC, B1G, or B12. I just almost died laughing.
