Before you are critical or judge someone else, stop and think about all that God has overlooked and forgiven you for.Another day2 say thanks
I'm sorry but if you're a professional who is using twitter on his employer's dime, keep your personal stuff out of it. If it's related to sports in any way (even tangentially) that's fine. But the guy is preaching about God on ESPN on every other post. I feel the same way about Jay Bilas quoting rap songs. Or Peter King writing about the best latte of the week. I hate this new trend. The fact that it's on twitter (as opposed to, say, an email) doesn't make it alright. You're still on the company dime.

Again, if it has to do with sports, you can get as personal and anecdotal as you possibly want. Although I can't stand Bill Simmons either, he actually manages to stay inside the line (though I know his analogies to pop culture are twisted, they are still attempts to talk about sports).

Eh, don't really agree. That's part of the reason people like twitter ... it's unfiltered (for the most part). You get a personal side to the people you follow. If you're sick of scrolling over his God posts then I would just unfollow. I'm sure you can get the same or similar news elsewhere.

Totally disagree...Twitter is 'social network'...gives people ability to post the personal side and views...Good for him!

KO is very 'spiritual' on his posts...again, good for him.

All allowed to have there views and opinions. If you do not like, don't follow them. Again, your choice!

If the company is paying for it and they object then it is up to them to ask their employee to make changes. Otherwise it's a non issue!

I don't have the option of unfollowing, unfortunately, since his appear on ESPN's twitter. And fleud is absolutely right, ESPN allows it. But I don't draw genre distinctions between twitter and the rest. It's writing, basically. And when I go to follow ESPN's twitter line to read on the latest, it becomes annoying to have to read through this stuff. My option is to stop following ESPN. I'd rather not.

The point is: is this really necessary?

It is what it is. ESPN wins if people love it or hate it. Their only loss is if people find it boring. I'm not saying Dykes is doing it to create controversy. I don't know him well enough for that. As long as any of these talking heads don't cross a line they won't get stopped. And if it creates ratings it will be encouraged. The line crossed is a moving line. What is accepted today may not be accepted tomorrow. Same holds true for the unaccepted.

That's the nature of Twitter.

It's not a newsfeed - it's much more informal than that.

Are you at work? Does your employer have anything to do with UConn Athletics? Are you using you're employer's resources to make, write, and post your observations? I ask this because the Boneyard doesn't seem to lend itself to general employee productivity, unless it is related to one's job.

With regard to mixing in a spiritual post with one's reporting duties, that is a Constitutionally protected right just as is also your right to gloss over said tweets (and to express your displeasure of them). A person's spiritualism is part of that persons makeup and it helps shape his/her writing...very difficult to separate.

In short. I don't see it as a big deal, more of a personal pet peave.

Oh, I'm not angry or offended by it in the least. I'm just annoyed. About 20% of the tweets are like this. Again, my option is to stop reading ESPN twitter, even though it is the best source for info like the Katz tweet about Ollie as COY this morning.

No, I'm not at work.

Please, why in the world are you brining up constitutionally protected rights? My God! Don't use a tank to kill an ant.

And no, I'm not allowed to spout off about how the Supreme Being lives on the Planet Zoltar on my employer's account.

The problem is that it's the best news feed--unfortunately. And this is true in many other fields as well. I use this old fashion thing called message board a lot. I also send emails mostly for work purposes. never sent a text before in my life, nor Facebook or any of that stuff. My friends were surprised to see that I use twitter often, because I've found it is a great newsfeed. That's how I use it. I'm simply surprised to see a media organization like ESPN gives such wide room to what is one of the best forms of communication out there. They created a whole separate page for Grantland which is well inside the line of ESPN Twitter.

I know who you are so I didn't think the references to God were the issue. :) I also know you are well versed on how the journalistic world in all its incarnations work. Just a teaching moment for those who might be less well versed. Probably redundant on my part.

Andy Katz has his own Twitter handle.

Fraschilla, Katz, and about 30 odd others do. Not everything is related to sports though. Get it? All their tweets don't tag onto ESPN. I know this because Bilas is the only guy I follow separately and the vast majority of the stuff he writes never appears on ESPN's page.

I'm just amazed at all you people who have the capacity to follow so many different things and do so in depth. My son is like this and I only wish I had this ability.

It's not necessarily a good thing. Distractions, distractions.

To be clear, I only follow the ESPN college basketball twitter. It comes up once a day. That's it. The 30 odd people I mentioned are part of college bball.

I realize that I've said this a few times in this thread and it's still not clear, which is my fault.

So, let me say once and for all what I am doing: ESPN has a twitter account for college basketball. I read it. There are about 20 pots every morning when I read them. Mostly by Katz, Frachilla, Dykes and several others.

You also have the option of pulling the giant bug out of your ass and stop being so uptight.
