Coach Diabate certainly has some talent to work with this year. This is a strong area on our roster. Love Carter and Brewton at RB so Coach Barthel must be excited to get going and Mickey will be helping it all get to another level on offense. Congrats to all for being recognized.

Yeah it's bitter sweet, but if he turns the offense around and we get a solid 2-3 years from him before he gets a HC offer, I think that we will be in an infinitely better place than we were when he came in. If the offense looks anything like Dunn where it actually was able to score and move the ball then this team is going places.
 
The last time we had a "rising star" as our offensive coordinator (Joe Moorhead) we had our best three year stretch as a D1 team.

Shane Day also did very well in his brief stint as offensive coordinator (currently QB coach and passing coordinator for the high flying Chargers)

In all fairness...our last rising star offensive coordinator was Rhett Lashlee. And actually Dunn after him did well for himself. He was hired away to be the Jets TE coach. Unfortunately for him, Adam Gase was the head coach.

But...I would say Lashlee was the last rising star OC...and that didn't go well.

Did UCONN and us fans know how good morehead was when he was here? PP and RE didn’t seem to value him all that much.

You're correct about Lashlee, forgot about him. Good call!

I also liked Dunn. He would be a good guy to consider if we lose Charlton. Currently TE's coach in Green Bay.

Dunn is the Packers TE coach now. He is ok.

RE handcuffed him and didn't allow him to run a more modern offense. I believe he was our OC around the Pat White, spread WVU offense years. IIRC, Morehead wanted to.run an offense similar to that. He did it at Fordham with Mike Neibrich who was supposed to be our QB at UConn.

I know I was excited for his hire but disappointed when I saw Randy's three downs of running the ball still the center of the offense.

That could be true. But also the best the offense ever looked during 1.0 was under Morehead. Remember those crazy high scoring shootouts with Endres and Frazer?

We went from running the most awful offense with DJ and Bones to looking freaking amazing in one summer against Duke with Lorenzen.

Also I met him before a game in 2007. The guy just had an it factor. Edsall was stupid to not unleash his capability and dumb for not taking him to Maryland.

Actually Hathaway is even worse. You know Morehead would have been better than P.

True on the Moorhead better than P, but if P had hired literally any offensive coordinate other than GDL, those teams would have seen way more success especially with Don Brown's defenses. P's loyalty, although respectable, is what screwed the him and caused the program to go down hill.
 
When RE had Moorehead he allowed him as much autonomy as RE was capable of.

When P took over, if he never added Brown or GDL, that team wins double digit games in 2011.

Yes, Brown is a top level defensive coordinator and may be better than Orlando but the manner in which that defense was built, with Orlando running the show they would have been dominant that season.

As far as GDL, there may have been a time when he was a top offensive mind but I don't think that was the case from around the time the world wide web allowed public access. He basically allowed Moorehead to have a title (a level below what it had been) but no input. Worse than his offensive approach, GDL was abusive to other coaches and unwilling to teach or explain his offense to the players.

The rest is what was our less than enjoyable history for the past decade plus.
