Exhibit 1 of small time mindedness. Just classic . Relax. Expect nothing, do nothing, and you won't be disappointed.

As much as I despise Jacobs the best thing UConn can do as of Jan 31st 2013 is represent the conference as best as possible. Be the best team they can be.
Wish most on this board thought the same way.

Some of the whining on some of the posts

Agreed. I am a realist and I know the conference situation is not great now but sometimes reading the negativity on this board is just depressing. If everyone who spends their energy complaining on this site would just spend that effort being a REAL diehard UConn fan I think we would be in the ACC/B1G already.

Well, whiners or not, it's really not the people on this board who are to blame for anything. These are the die hards.

I partially agree but if the amount of people who claim to care about this program had season tickets we would have 40k in the Rent every game and a January match up vs #1 (L'ville) would not have tickets available on game day.... These things are part of national perception which I believe has hurt us in CR.

No. This is stupid.

There are 3900 accounts on the site. 3900 extra people (presuming everyone with an account wasn't at the game, which is madness, but I'll indulge) would have only slightly beaten capacity for the XL Center for the UConn-Louisville game. 3900 extra FB season tickets would not have filled the Rent.

Stop.

Just remove the part about "representing the conference". Conference pride is for hacks, always has been. It's nothing more than a way for schools that don't do well to make themselves feel better by saying "well we play in the toughest league, blah, blah, blah". And what ends up happening? These teams that people root for in the name of "conference pride" leave the conference. More than ever, it should be evident to everyone that you have to play, and win, for yourself.

This.

Can we finally put to bed this absurd notion that if we had more diehard fans like HFD (not to pick on him, but he is the name most used on here), we would be in a big-time conference. Unless Dan donates 5-10k, at a minimum, a year and has for the past decade, UConn doesn't care.

Posting 500+ times a month on a message board isn't what moves the needle. The reason a school like Auburn was able to get a coach two years removed from a NC fired has far less to do with their message boards and almost everything to do with their wallets. Threats for top boosters to pull back and/or cease donations unless change occurs is how fans impact big time programs. Plain and simple, if you want to be in a big-time conference/want to influence change in the Athletic Department, you do it through your donations, or lack thereof.

The biggest challenge SH has put in front of WM and the UConn Foundation is to find and cultivate lots more Bob Burton/Mark Shenkman type donors. Herbst said she never can watch the game when she's at the Rent. She spends the whole time schmoozing guests in an effort to raise money.

I said "people who claim to care." That extends far beyond this message board. I'm talking about all of the UConn alumni, CT residents and students that come out of the woodwork when we're in a Final Four or BCS bowl to pledge there Husky fandom. My entire point is that I feel that UConn has too many CASUAL fans without enough loyalty to "move the needle" as a big-time fan base. There are far more than 40k fans who were thrilled to have the school play OU in '10 and there were way more than 15k basketball fans around to bask in the glory of '11. I'm just asking where do they all go? If everyone who supports UConn during the highs supported them during the lows, we would be in a different place right now and I'm not sure how you could argue that.

Connecticut is in a tough spot geographically being sandwiched in between NYC and Boston. That and the fact that there are only about three and a half million people in the state. Add to it that the D-1 version of the football program is a wee bit over a decade old and the only meaningful bowl game the Huskies have been in they got spanked and there isn't a whole heck of a lot to build a fan base from..... yet. Put a winner on the field, get a nice winning streak going, more CT residents will show. The fan base grows. Win a BCS bowl game and tradition starts to build a foundation and the fan base grows some more. Have a couple UConn grads become Pro-Bowlers or NFL MVP's and you build some cornerstones for that tradition. And the fan base grows. Time guys.... it's just a matter of time.
