I read Jacobs's column in the Courant this morning. He was waxing nostalgic about the Big East Tournament at MSG. He had me until he started affirming Pete Thamel's position of Swoffard negotiating to bring the ACC Tourney to NYC. All that I could think of was sitting in the corner of the end zone at the Car Care Bowl in Charlotte & listening to the Wake Forest fans chant ACC, ACC during the fourth quarter. I'd rather be in Siberia in January than see those initials adorning the turf at the RENT.

Not if it's for a conference title and a decent bowl berth.

Indeed. People here sometimes try to treat the ex-CUSA teams that joined post-BC-leaving as the SEC East. They weren't, but we've managed to have a competitive league with them.

Yes comparing Memphis' football program to Louisville and Cincinnati makes sense. They were all in CUSA at one point.

And sure if UConn is going to the BCS it's more interesting. You've got a chance to get rich if you think that is happening.

There is no decent bowl berth. Have you guys been paying attention to what's happening with the bowl lineups? IF UConn wins out, they might squeak into a "decent bowl", but even that isn't guaranteed. Anything short, and there is no decent bowl. A 10-2 UConn team will play a MAC or CUSA team. An 11-1 team will be lucky to play an ACC bottom feeder.

In 2014:

It will lose the top 3 bowls, Russell will go to Big 12 , Belk will go to a 4 conference partnership (no Big East), Pinstripe will go to Big Ten.

That's the Big East's current best bowls.

A few years ago Dez floated an idea that perhaps the ACC and Big East should merge. That ship has sailed - but with 20/20 hindsight it would have been a great move for UCONN and the entire Big East.

They did merge. They took 6 of the 12 schools that ever played FB in the BE. Miami, BC, VT, Pitt, Cuse, UL. Ru and Wvu got better offers leaving only Uconn, USF, Cincy, and Temple.

The demise of the Big East is just plain sad. 34 years down the drain, but there is nobody to blame but the folks that ran it into the ground. The only folks that rival the stupidity of Providence are those in Storrs. As for Swofford, the ACC, and BCS, it's criminal what been done.. Literally. These arrangements are anticompetitive and intended to contriol media dollars. Our feckless leaders keep smiling while getting repeatedly screwed.

If by decent bowl birth, you mean the whogivesashiit.com bowl, then sure, we'll probably have a shot at that.

Just give a me competitive season,a team that doesn't quit, entertains me almost every play and a bowl bid will come and who gives a f@ck where it is as long as it's a bowl. Were Uconn not Oregon.

And basketball is next. We'll be on the outside looking in as the NCAA will no longer exist and the big 4 conf's divvy up the loot.

What money? Won't be any of mine. We all have choices.

On a side note, Is there any way we can get a psychiatrist on this message board?
we would have to get a couple...

the first would run screaming... the next would find us interesting... the third would try to figure out what is wrong with the second... and the fourth to write a lengthy case study on the effects on anonymity and the dogmatic ego.

That assumes that there's a decent bowl berth to be had. I wouldn't count on it.

Not with Coach Blue at the helm. Let us not allow CR to give this guy cover

Sorry, but I'm not satisfied watching 6-6 football against the likes of Tulsa, SMU, UCF, and Temple and bids to the MyCleanPC.com Dandelion Bowl. And neither will 99.9% of the state of CT.

Get used to it gonna be a while before changes around these parts.

I know, I'm just saying that's not something that's going to satisfy me, and will ultimately be a catastrophic path for the athletic program.
