Don't know what time yet with Francesca, I'll update when he passes that along.

The thing that stuck out most was when Mike asked him about retiring. Calhoun said he wanted to be there even if he's "not blowing the whistle."

This is the first we've heard of this being mentioned. It would mean a LOT to the program if he hangs around. It also shows his commitment to the team/university.

Awesome interview, Calhoun said, "I love UConn. With or without a whistle I will be a part of UConn forever." He kept saying over and over that UConn will be a national power for the long haul and that whenever he does retire he still wants to be a big part of the program. Francesa asked him so it sounds like you want to be something like an overseer of the program, Calhoun basically said yes. Didn't flat out say he's coming back next year but he sure made it sound like he will be, he also corrected Francesa when he said we are already out of the tourny next year. He said that hasn't been decided yet, the NCAA will meet again in April and he will fight his hardest to make sure we get in tourny next year.

Thanks for the link!

Great interview. Love to hear what they are working on in practice. Really focusing on running their players off the 3 point line.

My interpretation is that for Calhoun to be involved after retirement, UConn would have to promote from within. This is the first time I felt Ollie was going to be the successor.

I agree Dogpause...

That interview really foreshadowed Ollie taking the reigns.

I recommend everyone listen to the interview. Proud to be a UConn fan.

For those that missed it, Fatso said that WFAN will replay the interview in the 6 P.M. hour.

I thought it was interesting at the end when he said that if the NCAA used the same criteria today that they are using for next year, 13 teams would not be eligible for this years tournament....including Syracuse.

On a related note, Kevin Ollie did an interview last night on SNY's Uconn Tournament Preview show. I know KO's been criticized for not being the greatest public speaker but I thought he sounded more than fine. He got his point across a heck of a lot more clearly than Calhoun ever does.

Regardless what the NCAA does eventually, they've already hurt our recruiting.

No doubt they hurt our recruiting for the 2012 class. As far as I'm concerned, if the NCAA does ultimately let us play in the tournament next year, the only recruit Calhoun should worry about is Andre Drummond.

But to what position? AD is filled. Some kind of consultant? BOT?

Calhoun's UConn loyalty through the years has been astounding. It's very easy to go to a school that's already been a national power and be loyal to them... Those are called destination jobs and once you have one, you don't leave.

It's a whole other thing to go to a doormat, turn it into a national power yourself and continue to stay on instead of heading for the greener pastures of a school that's been a historical major player.

JC has so much loyalty to UConn and pride in what he's built at UConn. I am so lucky and thankful to have been a witness to what he's done here. He truly belongs up there with Wooden, Smith, Rupp, Knight, and (it's painful to say it) K as some of the absolute greatest.

I would love to see Calhoun stay as long as humanly, or inhumanly, possible. However, I'm not sure this "overseer of the program" idea is the best. As much as he has meant to this program when he does decide to retire I think its best to give the new coach a wide berth to establish himself. If Calhoun hangs around too closely he could overshadow the new coach leading to impotent leadership.

Did Coach take even one breath during that interview. I love the man but I need a translator.

How many coaches have won three national championships? It's not a very long list...
