Donovan over Calipari

Hey the squid is a slime ball, but he's one heckuva coach, no one can deny that. He brought UMass from the trash of Amherst to national prominence, Memphis from a nobody to a top 10 team and would be NC, and a down and out Gillispe version of UK, to the juggernauts theyve been and their first NC since what 96? BTW I hate UK but I'm just stating the facts, the man is an awesome coach, ya he's skated away clean of scandals, but as we know now, who has the right to point fingers anymore. If your not pushing the boundries of the rules, your not trying hard enough. Ya Donavan has 2 NC, but that was roughly with the same bunch of kids. I have no problem with the squid being ahead of him.

Squid is one heckuva car-salesman ... I met him back when he was at UMass and I kept checking my wallet on the way to my car... he's smoooooooth... but I wouldnt trust him as far as I could slide off the greece on his self-righteous head ... he's a smart, manipulative, forward-thinking scumbag .... he knows how to beat the APR bullcrap ... he owns the NCAA ruling committee ... he's Michael Corleone.

I've never though Boeheim was that great as a coach. And how can Dean Smith not be ranked higher?

For all of the talent that Smith got it always amazed me that he's only had 2 titles, then when you look at the manner in which those games finished, Fred Brown's pass, Chris Webber's timeout, it seemed like he had an angel on his side just to get those 2.

Totally agree.

Plus, it's only after expansion to 64 (so post-1985). That takes away a bunch of wins, Final Fours, and one of his titles. That's why he's so low.

Roy at #3 sallies the whole enchilada for me. He's not a top 10 coach. He's had so much talent at KU and Carolina that he has done so little with. I agree with posters though, Dean Smith should have been much higher. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.

I don't see how Roy Williams and Dean Smith are any diferent as far as their resumes. I don't think Williams should be #3 either and he has had quite a few talented teams bomb out(not really the case at UNC compared to at KU), but the same arguments you made to knock Williams you can do the same thing with Smith.

Not to nit-pick but Smith won two titles against: the Hoyas, and Mich (fab five). He won with Eric Montross and Derrick Phelps against Michigan, and he beat Kansas with Coach Roy Williams on the way to that title. Williams had a team in the mid-nineties of Paul Peirce, Raef LaFrance, Jacques Vaughn, and Scot Pollard and didn't win it all. He had a tremendous record at Kansas but was known as"the best Coach to not win it all". I think that Smith was a far better coach. Just my opinion.

I think Izzo got jobbed. He's #3 in my book.

Agree, Izzo is in the same category as Calhoun and K. It takes some luck to win NC championships and Izzo is lacking in that category and nothing else. Also one of the best 2nd half season coaches in the business. He's one of a few coaches on that list where the lack of NC titles is misleading.
