This interaction on UConn barstool's IG page made me laugh out loud at work. Two of my biggest passions, history and Connecticut basketball. Thought some of you may enjoy as well.

Most of those abolitionists came from Massachusetts, which is why it's the name of the main street downtown. The town and the university were founded by abolitionist New Englanders (The Emigrant Aid Society). The Jayhawkers were active before the civil war during the Bleeding Kansas border war with Missouri caused by the Kansas Nebraska act of 1854. But they continued to conduct raids during the civil war. I think it's a great nickname, and would say that without my own connection. It also shows just why Kansas - Missouri is such a rivalry.

Beecher's bibles, Henry Ward Beecher from my town Litchfield, CT armed them. Most famous preacher in the country and brother of Harriet Beecher Stowe.
